Don't worry about the overbooking business as I expect they won't be booking in very late at night. A number of hotels apparently do this, as they offer late cancellations on bookings, but it is usually people booking in late at night that find rooms gone to thsoe arriving earlier. Also they are arriving before the bank holiday so will already be in their room, before the it gets really busy.

Ah thats interesting to know.. and my other half tells me Im sad cos I always arrive early for everything! :p I shall pass this on.:)

    Thanks :D

Do they have any affiliations, like church, professional bodies and so on - possibly NFU? Could they see if members offer accommodation or can recommend any?

I've had a look at the website and sent off an enquiry form - it does look like an ideal time of accommodation for them. Many thanks :)

When my son first went to work in London he used an agency like this, cant remember if its the same one. He stayed in some beautiful houses in the most expensive parts of London. One elderly lady (he said it was like the "Lavender Hill Gang" lol - was tiny and had a house full of antiques in chelsea and basically I think she just did this for the company - he told her he was leaving for work at 5.30 a.m. (tv studio) and he would be quiet as he left. At 5 a.m. he smelt bacon and egg and there she was, busy in the kitchen making sure he had breakfast before he left and then bunging oranges and apples in his coat pocket as he tried to get out of the door. Bless her, he still sends her cards and little pressies.

Another one he stayed with was a flamboyant gay with a very elderly and smelly dog but a beautiful house in Notting Hill. And he was an accomplished chef and would make cordon bleu dinners for the guests even though they were only paying for b and b. :)
  • My parents ( father 83) stayed in the ex servicemens club near Waterloo. They also serve a very nice dinner so they do not need to go out unless they want to. I would be surprised if your grandfather was not an ex serviceman

Yes, if your grandparents are ex-servicemen, you may want to check out The Union Jack Club right by Waterloo station. It would be a short bus ride/taxi ride away to Tower Bridge.

If you are very quick, as they only have a few rooms at £9, I have just checked and found that the new Tune hotel at waterloo has rooms for £9 a night for the dates you want. It is very basic (without a window) and you pay for add ons like room cleaning whilst there and a towel pack, but for £45 for 5 days in total in a very central location, it is a great price. Journey time from there to Tower Hill is about 20 mins. Lambeth North tube is beside hotel 2 stops from there to Embankment and then change platforms onto the circle or district line for tube to Tower Hill. Have just also noticed if check 25th for 2 nights and 27 for 3 nights they offer you a room with a window for the £9 a night, but if you block book you only get offered the windowless room, might be worth doing 2 bookings? Have PM as see you are online.

Grandparents now booked into a B&B at Greenwich called 'Number 37', Ive spoken to the owner and she sounds lovely and the reviews on Tripadvisor are excellent. Apparently you can go from there (well nearby lol) to Tower Bridge by river boat which my gran is really excited about :) Thanks to all who made brilliant suggestions.
