Has any SUCCESSFULLY done their own official photos for things like passports, driving licences etc AND had them accepted?
Please post how you did it, what you used etc... and how cheap it was. There are some online sites that let you upload a picture and help resize it etc... but I understand that if you get the printing wrong, i.e wrong paper - it will be rejected.
I'm considering doing my own for my driving licence after seeing how most photo booths charge around £5 and just wondered how easy it is to save money by the DIY route.

More hassle than it's worth...
On the PDF the passport photo guidance says...•be taken within the last month
•be undamaged (not torn, creased or marked)
•be free from reflection or glare on spectacles,
the frames of which must not cover the eyes
- if possible, we recommend photographs
without spectacles to avoid the risk of rejection
because of glare or reflection
•be free from “redeye”
•be free from airbrushing or similar enhancement
•be taken of the full head, without any covering
unless worn for religious or medical reasons
•be printed professionally or taken in a passport photo booth. Photos printed at home are unlikely to be of an acceptable standard
•have the person’s full name on the back of
each photograph.
I'd just pay the fiver...:exclamatiTo the internet.. I need to complain about something!0 -
I did all of ours using the camera built into the computer. Cropped and sized it, printed out on high quality satin paper. make sure that you have a blank background (I used the wall) and that you get the proportions right. Other than that no problems - 6 passports ad one driving licence sorted.0

Have done it taking photo on digicamera at home, then formatted with ePassportPhoto.com and then printed it on the machine in Boots for 20p. Worked fine on foreign visa applications, but I didn't have the balls to try it on the UKPA. I don't see why there would be a problem, mind. Unless photobooths use some kind of magical paper that the Passport Authority sniffer dogs can detect at 100m.....0

I did it myself, in fact just as spikedouglas has written above. Used them for UK passport and numerous visas never had a problem.0

I used the same site as KingL as I couldn't be bothered faffing around with photos that I took myself for the girlfriend and printed off at ASDA, no problems as passport came through fine.0

I've done this both for passports and visa applications. I took the photos with my normal digital camera, used photoshop to size them correctly and placed a number of photos on one 7" x 5" sheet. I then took this to Jessops and had it printed there. No problems with acceptance.Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks
On a rotating plate, with spikes like Flash Gordon
And you're Peter Duncan; I gave you fair warning0 -

Didnt it have Passport size photos ? you usually get 4 .Make sure its a white background0

I got a jpg which was 4 photos wide and 2 photos tall. The printout of it I got from boots is 14.5cm x 10cm, which I guess was probably the 6"x4" option. This makes each passport photo 46mm x 36mm without any border. According to the link above the target size is 45mm x 35mm, so you should be OK with this.0
