Does Royal Mail's Opt-Out Form work for JUNK MAIL?

Options
I ran across this form on stopjunkmail.org.uk -
Royal Mail's Door-to-Door Opt-Out

You basically have to request a form from Royal Mail and send it back to them and then your address won't get junk mail delivered by the Postie that isn't addressed to you.

Has anyone registered with this service and does it work?

It would be nice to cut down the recycling....:T

    no it doesnt
    it stops unaddressed mail
  • But surely anything addressed to "the occupier" is junk? I wouldn't count "the occupier" as addressed mail. If they don't know who I am then it's not for me.

really? so when the Edinburgh council does a mass mailing regarding city wide matters and addresses those letter to the occupier
    they are junk?

letters are mail. pure and simple
the door2door opt out relates to unaddressed mail

are you the type who returns the likes of TV licence letters as they are addressed to the occupier?

The website says that items addressed "to the occupier" will be delivered if they also have a proper address.

Does it work? Do posties remember who to deliver to and who not to - as that seems to be who it all rests upon....as usual! :(

it doesnt and going in again with the form will change nothing.
what exactly do you think unaddressed mail is?
do you think its the various letters to your property with the address on them?
i think you need to google the mail preference service

Wow, no need to be so snarky. I was asking a simple question. I've never had any letters addressed to "the occupier" that haven't been junk.

As it happens, I don't live in Edinburgh so would have absolutely no idea about the type of letters Edinburgh council send out. Any letters I have received from my own council have my name on.

As for the TV licence comment, I don't know why you feel the need to imply that I'm some kind of thief who doesn't pay for my TV licence? I pay my licence therefore any letters from them turn up with my name on.

Seriously, anyone asks anything vaguely to do with the post, half the time you jump down their throats. Don't take everything so personally. It wasn't even the postal system I was criticising, in fact I wasn't criticising at all - I was saying that if someone knows who I am and wants to post something to me then they should put my name on the letter.

I worked for a Direct mail company for 13 years so i know what junk mail is . The mail i was trying to stop was the iceland flyers , the junk food resturant flyers etc i know its the postman because i work afternoons so am at home when the postman comes . When i went to the sorting office to get these stopped i was told if the iceland flyers junk food flyers stopped then anything that is addressed occupier would also stop . I now just put them back in the post once a week as i have to walk past a post box on to take my son to school
