how do i find out if i have recieved a ccj?

hi i have just heard people who claimed to be baliffs knocking on one of my neighbours houses, i dont think they have debts but i do, and since getting finished from work a while back i have basically burried my head in the sand, but this has worried me now perhaps they knocked on the wrong door (no numbers on a few doors in our street) is their a quick way to find out if i have recieved a ccj?

i have just looked on google images to see if i have recieved a letter like them, but im unsure as they look very similar to the normal debt collection agency ones.

can someone help please?

They might be baliffs, more likely they might be debt collectors, debt collectors have as much power as the Avon lady and can be stopped with a simple letter.

If you had a CCJ there'd have been letters come in the post, if you haven't looked at the post in a while you mightn't know. If there's a post mountain you could open it. Having said that though I fully understand how much that might be asking of you, so here's another way.

Get your credit files. You need your file from ALL THREE of the credit reference agencies. They are...

    Experian
    Equifax
    Call Credit

If you have a credit card you should be able to see your report online for free. If you do not have a credit card follow the links ont he sites to the Statutory Report bit. A Statutory Report is the same file you'd see online or that anyone else would see when checking you for credit worthiness and it's not allowed to cost more than £2 by law. You can pay for it by postal order if you don't have another way, I did this recently, it cost me just shy of £11 for all three reports including postal order fees and signed for postage to get the forms off.

And most importantly DON'T PANIC. Whatever the true state of affairs is there is no need for it to be addressed immediately or even in a hurry, you HAVE got time for those reports to come back (1-2 weeks usually) and if you have a CCJ still don't panic- come back we'll tell you what to do about it.

You're probably sh*tting bricks right now, not to put too fine a point on it. A lot of us have been there too. This point you're at, this scary day, is very often what people call thier Lightbulb Moment. The moment at which the penny really drops about thier debt issues and they start to work them out. If so then the only way is up.

Start on the post mountain if you can and getting your credit files regardless of the existance or non-existance of the post mountain. Do the credit reports first.

cheers, everyone, they were outside for about 1 hour and a half, they also kocked on a few other peoples houses including mine, and also shouted through the neighbours letter box telling them that they were waiting for a tow truck to take their car away,

my problem is that since i moved out of my parents house to this new house (rented) i never told my creditors about this move, although i have been recieving letters from the creditors to my new house, i still recieve some at my parents house. im now concerned that i have got baliffs after me.

if you check your credit records, your creditors will come chasing you immediately.

if you check the trustonline web-site, you do not alert your creditors to your new address.
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing

Any of your credit reports could be instant or delayed by a PIN, I expect Experian have done that because they aren't totally sure about your address so they are using the postal PIN to make sure they don't give your data to anyone else.

Seeing all three reports is required because sometimes only one or two of the three CRA's has a given bit of information, so for now breathe- it doesn't matter if Equifax are instant or not you're waiting on Experian anyhow.

You don't know for sure that next door don't have debt, they just don't seem like they have debt- neither did the Duchess of York till we all found out.

Nothing, but if you want to check your file you're going to have to enter it.
