Should I use the same solicitor to sell my home and buy a new one?

Hi All
What are your thoughts on this?
We are selling in Birmingham and either moving elsewhere in Birmingham, or maybe moving nearby to Lichfield area.
Should we use the same solicitor to sell our apartment and to buy a new home?
What do most people do who are in this situation?
I take it it will be cheaper to use one than two?
thanks

Hi
Sorry for my ignorance but I'm a first time seller0 -
Yes, I did that when I moved from Brum to here, it works out a bit cheaper, and you get to know your solicitor and build up trust.
Don't forget you need to show him/her your passport or some kind of official i.d to buy/sell.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

It is standard practice to do so. It also means completion will go faster because your sale proceeds don't have to be transferred to another solicitor before your purchase funds can be sent on to the vendors.0

We will need to pay off our mortgage early and get a new one my mortgage company tells me. So this wouldnt be so.0 -
You often get a better price if you do both.
Good luck OPmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
My buyer used 2 different solicitors for his sale / purchase and it delayed the process by a couple of weeks (according to my Sols).
In practice, it is often sensible to use the same where possible.0 -
I've no idea why anybody would choose to use two different solicitors apart from when there's a big gap between selling one place and buying another.0

Yes the same solicitor to buy AND sell is normal practice.Squish0

Otherwise its an extra exhange, you have to chase twice as many people, and the money has to pass through another solicitors account0
