I know the superdrug glycerine clear soap used to be around 65p a bar so not too cheap, but cheaper than paying postage. This is only one I know will melt in microwave but I only tried a few, produces body shop kind of soap when fragranced.Melt n pour soap tends to be glycerine.
Could you post up how you get on,be great if it works as I begrudge having to pay postage for heavy base.
I made jaffa cakes massage bars I sourced a mold off fleabay! My daughters teacher kept eating jaffas in front of them so we made her the ultimate gift lol!Nobbly bits I did orange then added hot chocolate to bottom. You can layer up as one layers cooling.Sigh ive missed doing this.Been meaning to start again to make enough to do a few craft fairs before xmas.I did a car boot but only broke even 2 years back after entrance and icecreams, soap sweat in heat no fun.Did all these lovely fragrances and ladies on diets kept sniffing them!Only ones I sold were my goldfish bags!0 -
I'd never be organised enough to do it as a business but I have made my first batch tonight
My trial run tonight was a plain eucalyptus and tea tree batch (due to lack of lavender flowers mainly...)
It DID bubble in the microwave so I stopped it a couple of times, stirred it and then stuck it back in and after about 2-3 mins it was all melted. Stirred in 2 drops eucalyptus and 2 drops tea tree and poured in an empty loo roll inner tube sealed at one end. It's set just fine and I will try to "slice" it in a bit with a very hot sharp knife
So it works with Tesco's value soap! Next I'll try the glycerin soap I thinkDFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

If you're still trying to think of a substitute for the cigar tubes, could you use smarties tubes? You'd get the bonus of being able to eat the smarties too0

I've been meaning to try and make soap for ages but have one Q - do you have to line the toilet roll inner or smarties tube before your pour in the soap?May the fleas of a thousand camels infest the crotch of the person who screws up your day and may their arms be too short to scratch...:D0

Thanks for the update! I'll try it with the value soap. Can afford to mess around a bit with that :-)0

Depends on if you want to re-use itif you want to re-use the same tube then yes... just line with tinfoil or clingfilm (although not sure about the smartie tube... maybe that is already pretty lined with the packaging they use...)
Let me know how you get on Fluffas you say at 19p for 3 bars you can afford to play about a little lol
if you use a toilet roll then cut the soap into little slices ith a very warm knife (run under the hot tap and then dry it) and it will slide through without breaking the soap. Not sure yet how to wrap those little !!!!!!s but I'll think of something no doubt :rolleyes:DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

Smartie tubes aren't round any more
sacrilege in my opinion. But I bet hexagonal shaped soaps would look brill.
Could you use soap flakes instead of grating bars of soap, presumably they would be less processed?0 -
I honestly don't know Alison
I know the tesco value soap has very very few ingredients which I am guessing is good...
I have just had a brain wave tho and realised I have some coloured lavender soap (a freebie) that I might grate and mix in with my lavender soap... I'll melt all the white soap and mix everything in then sprinkle the grated lavender soap in for colour effectDFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!
