All the big powers they've silenced me. So much for free speech and choice on this fundamental human right, and outing the liars.

When they ring again, tell them that you are with the TPS and ask them to take you off their list as they can be fined for ringing you.

There is a loophole for some however.

Get a phone with a caller display - if you don't recognise the number, either let it ring or pick the phone up and replace it immediately in its rest.
If it is a genuine call, they will call back immediately, if it is a cold caller they will move you down the list to try later.............

as they say on the shampoo bottle "repeat as necessary" !

    OR get something like this......

I had someone phoning me today for a survey.

I gave him answers to his questions.

I made them up but they were answers

Some Surveys are not dailing random numbers but have in fact brought your personal details from another company before calling you.

This was the case for a call I got from DLG they had already brought my personal details from another company before calling me. DLG are the company who run the Consumer Lifestyles telephone survey.

To take my own example of being contacted by DLG to see what they do with personal data look here (Purpose 4 is the area of most interest):

    http://www.ico.gov.uk/ESDWebPages/DoSearch.asp?reg=4446365

In my case all answers given were held with other personal information obtained from elsewhere on their database.

Information on how to prevent unwanted calls is included in the personal information toolkit in the section below:

    http://www.ico.gov.uk/upload/documen...ml/reduce.html

Joining the TPS stopped a lot of calls.

For some unknown reason registering with Silent Callgard Service stopped a lot more calls - unclear why but I assume this restricts the use of computer dialing.

I first came across truecall via a Direct Marketing Industry Blog - some Sales Company Representative complaining about it after he had seen it on Dragon's Den. I took this as a good endorsement for the product.

I used to get fed up of being pestered tried to ignore the calls, add known number in phone address book and assign a horrible ring tone so didnt get up but most of these calls seem to be international now

I can say with confidence that I haven't had one single call since March since I got it. I know it costs and why should you pay but in the end I thought I wanted to be not pestered at home

I keep all known friends in truecall so they bypass this, occasionally odd calls I wanted has to leave a message and then I get the calls "its from so and so" do I want to accept it etc but above all its been brilliant ist right up there with my pvrs as best hardware device in years
