Some newer posters get befuddled about the many acronyms used by us all on this board.
Anyone want to help get a list up and running? Here's a start:thanks to those who have made suggestions
AIP = Agreement in principle (from mortgage lender - see alt. DIP)
ARLA - Association of Residential Lettings Agents
AST = Assured Shorthold Tenancy (Eng/Wales)
BR = Building Regs OR Bankrupt
BTL = Buy To Let
CGT - Capital Gains Tax
CML = Council of Mortgage Lenders
CT- Council Tax
CTL= Consent to Let
DCA = Debt Collection Agency
DEA = Domestic Energy Assessor
DIP = Decision in Principle (from Mortgage Lender) see alt.AIP
DPA = Data Protection Act
DPS - Deposit Protection Scheme ( one of three which are Govt approved)
EA = Estate Agent
E&W = England & Wales (as opposed to Scotland)
EHO - Environmental Health Officer
EPC - Energy Performance Certificate
FENSA = Fenestration Self-Assessment Scheme ( glass windows/doors)
FH= Freehold
FW&T = fair wear and tear
FTB = First time buyer
GSC = gas safety certificate - legal requirement for all tenanted properties
GSR = Gas Safe Register
HA- Housing Association
HA04 = Housing Act 2004
HB = Housing Benefit ( now LHA)
HBRS = House Buying, Renting & Selling (this Board)
HCR- Home Condition Report
HHSRS - Housing Health & Safety Rating System
HMO = House in Multiple Occupation
HMRC = Her Majesty's Revenue & Customs, formerly Inland Revenue
HPC - House Price Crash (website & forum)
HPI = House Price Inflation
HR = Home Report (required for property sales in Scotland only)
