Tesco pay monthly sims query?

I am looking at purchasing a Tesco sim to go in my new Samsung Monte that I got for free in the Tesco clubcard double-up promotion.
The one month rolling contract sims look a good deal for me, but I am confused about what the offer actually includes.

THIS ONE-
£10 Tariff 1 Month Contract (250 minutes plus unlimited texts and 3 months unlimited data.)

What does 3 months unlimited data mean? If it is a 1 month contract how can they offer 3 months of something? Does it mean after 3months you get nothing in your monthly quota?

THIS ONE-
£15 Tariff 1 Month Contract (500 minutes plus unlimited texts and data.)

I don't need 500mins as I only really text, but I will want some data included. Obviously I would rather only pay £10 a month if possible, but I don't want the unlimited data running out after 3months...

Can anyone help please :-)
`Save a little money each month, and at the end of the year, you'll be suprised at how little you have.

I would be very, very careful with this offer.

Tesco t&c are a complicated nightmare (see http://www.tesco.com/mobilenetwork/content.aspx?page=37) but hidden amongst the print is this little gem

    "
    4. Inclusive Credit and Data Charges
4.1 Inclusive Credit can be used on GPRS and 3G networks (as applicable to your handset), for personal internet use via your mobile phone whilst you are in the UK.
4.2 All usage must be for your private, personal and non-commercial purposes. You may not use your SIM Card:
    (a) in, or connected to, any other device including modems;
    (b) to allow the continuous streaming of any audio / video content, enable Voice over Internet (VOIP), P2P or file sharing; or
    (c) in such a way that adversely impacts the service to other Tesco Mobile or Telefonica O2 UK customers.
4.3 Once you have used all your Inclusive Credit, any data use which would previously have been included will be charged at the current rate Click here for details.
    "

Following the link, you will see that Tesco's charge for WAP over GPRS is £4 per Mb! or, in other words, your 500Mb "unlimited" Internet in month 3 would cost you £2000 in month 4!

You really need to talk to them about what happens in month 4 onwards! Or check out another network who doesn't have a 3-month offer that could bankrupt you in month 4.

There is a deal that's £6 per month: unlimited texts and 100 mins on SIM only.

  • Those T&C's certainly need studying thanks ;)
I did wonder whether to stick with my PAYG tesco tariff (getting triple credit with top-ups) and just adding on their £2 a week internet browsing pass?

Have had a brief look at the giffgaff site. Looks a good offer, but could I use them with a phone locked to tesco, or would I have to pay to get it unlocked first, and if so how/where?

I believe Tesco roam on the O2 network, which GiffGaff do as well as they are a division of O2 in essence.

It should work straight away if you were going to be on Tesco anyway (I would think)

If you do need to unlock it, some phones shops will do it for you or maybe there's a market trader? In out town there's a guy with a stall in the centre, 2 phone shops and a game shop that does unlocks.

    Usually costs £10 to £15.

Thanks for pointing that out, I'd be interested to see the answer to that question too.
