Delays in switching to Atlantic

I used uswitch 5 weeks ago to initiate a switch to Atlantic.
Peeps on here suggested that the switch could take as long as six weeks. I thought this was ridiculous; it's all computerised after all.

Anyways, I've just received an email from uswitch saying :
We are writing to update you on your energy switch to Atlantic Electric and Gas, which you made on uSwitch.com recently. We are very sorry if you're still waiting for your switch to be completed, but due to overwhelming demand Atlantic Electric and Gas are experiencing a delay in processing customer switches.

What happens next?

We have passed all of your details to Atlantic Electric and Gas and they are working hard to set up your account as quickly as possible. Atlantic Electric and Gas are aiming to contact customers who've requested a switch within six weeks at the latest to confirm they've received your request and update you on your switch. If Atlantic Electric and Gas have already contacted you, please accept our apologies for emailing you and we trust your switch is progressing smoothly.

Anyone else received this?
Does it mean I'll be waiting another six weeks?

  • Yes I got this email too. Yes it does look like we will be waiting another 6 weeks!

At least they have bothered to email us to let us know!:money:

I'll probably give Atlantic a call next week to see if I can give them a nudge:beer:

It's really down to your existing supplier. They generally require a month's notice, which makes up the majority of those 5-6 weeks.
  • FYI.

Received a postcard today from Atlantic. Should be receiving a Welcome Pack 'shortly'. So if it happens within a couple of days, I'll have made the switch in just about 6 weeks.

When I switched to Atlantic it took about 8 weeks. I was only with them for 1 month though as the bills were double what I was paying before. So then I switched back to British Gas which took about 1 week.

The initial direct debit payments are normally figured out based on what figures you plug into the switching site. It was probably just a gross overestimate that you could have asked them to adjust.

Nope it was double what I am spending now with British Gas. I didnt get as far as set a DD up with Atlantic. They read the meter at the end of my stay with them and this is what it calculated it to be. I had to pay £88 to them for gas and electric for one month and with BG I pay £36. I would never go back to Atlantic again.

I'd be happy with that figure for gas & electricity added together as my new D/D payments for BG are now apparently £81 per month for the gas alone! I don't know what the new payment is for electricity because I can't view my bill online again  and that's where the notification will be. I've emailed BG again about this viewing problem with no response.

I got my card from Atlantic to herald the arrival of a Welcome Pack a few days ago. I phoned them on their Freephone number (what a novelty after BG's 0845 !) to find out what is happening, got straight through and they said that my switch will happen on 5th Oct.:D
It was sooo nice to speak to someone who sounded like they give a damn.

You have a completely opposite experience to what I had with Atlantic. I'm not bothered if they give a damn as long as the charges are cheap.

So do I. My bill was halved by moving from BG to Atlantic.
  • FYI.

Today I received a letter from powergen. Said they were sorry to see me leave.
Well I'm not. Will be receiving a refund of a few hundred quid, and will be moving onto pastures new (cheaper) :money:
