You could just try lightly sanding the raised part a bit more.
Another option, one regularly used on new skirtings and doors where the first ever coat of paint or varnish will cause the grain to raise, is to go over the whole table with a damp cloth. That will raise anything else that is pronbe to raising, then sand the whole lot gently flat again.

OMG!!!! u r an absolute genius!!!! (the person that suggested this) :j i had a bbq 1 day and it started to rain so i moved all the food inside and put the food on a brand new dark oak table, where i had put the corn on the cob it had left the most herendous massive white mark i was reading thru this forum and saw this and thought thats silly thats just goin to make it worse but thought at the same time wat do i have to lose and the mark is completely gone without a trace, so i thank you and apologise for doubting ur idea!!!! xx :T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T0
