in a Honda Civic I had a few years back I was only getting 20 MPG with it being 1.6.

There was something seriously wrong with it then, a Honda Civic 1.6 should do well over 40 mpg on average.

I thought that I read that your Mondeo was returning 15 mpg.;)

Yes, currently running 15 MPG, but today, after filling the tank full, it appears to be back doing 22-23 MPG coming home on the M5 this evening, so keeping fingers crossed ;)

Thank you to everyone who has posted some really useful posts and sorry to those of you who felt you had to respond to a post that you weren't really interested in.

Sometimes it's not easy trying to sum up a conversation you've had face to face to get the answers you're looking for when you have to type it down.

Apologies if I've made this post too long.

Your OP is not too long it's just badly laid out for someone, who doesn't know the story, to read easily.

FWIW I don't think it's the end of the world that it is a 1.8.
