sending photocopy of credit card

Can anyone give me some advice? We are trying to rent a flat/condominium in Long Beach, California. The owner has asked for a photocopy of both sides of our credit card in order for us to leave a damages deposit of $350 or a cheque for the same amount. We feel a bit uneasy. Is it safe to send a photocopy of both sides of our credit card? If we don't how can we leave a deposit safely?

That would leave me uneasy - if he can take credit cards (as the request for a copy suggests) then he can take a deposit on it over the phone. If he can't, then he's no use for it and it could be misused.0

Hi Briff
This practice is common is the States..When we arranged a limo* transfer from LAX to hotel we needed to fax a completed creditcard authorisation document and a copy of the front & back of our credit card.
Enjoy your trip!
*The limo company was a large company recommended by the hotel."Do not look back and grieve over the past, for it is gone, and do not be troubled about the future, for it has yet to come. Live in the present, and make it so beautiful that it will be worth remembering"0 -
ask can you blot out the first 12 digits + CCV & provide by phone. Otherwise I would look elsewhere.Certain OTT members have caused me to add this disclaimer: all advice given is free of charge & as such should be taken to be IIRC (as I don't spend hours researching all answers  )!0
