Cheapest mobile network abroad?

I'm going on holiday next week and would like to know what is my best option for texting whilst abroad?
Last year i used vodafone passport and a freedom pack but you cannot use texts with that anymore, therefore I either just pay 11p a text with vodafone, or find a texting abroad package or cheaper network..
help please

Surely a French sim is going to be the best, do you go to france often? Orange or SFR should have a decent offer0

nope, just once a summer but ill be texting back to the UK. so surely a french sim card would make no difference? 0
