PAYG Broadband?

Hi,

I just moved in somewhere that already has a phone line, and the landlord says I can get internet if I just call BT and activate the account. My question is I'm not going to be there fore 12 months, I'm not sure how long I'm staying. Is it possible to get broadband pay as you go? like for a few months then cancel?

Thanks

MsD

Yes, but it is more expensive.
Many have a "cancellation fee" even if they do not have a minimum contract.

One that doesn't is the Phone Co-Op, but at £29.99 connection, AND £19.99 per month, AND you'd need to buy your own equipment, getting a cheaper deal and just pay the cancellation charge or pay to the end of the 12 month term may in the long run be cheaper.

Or go & look at https://www.freeola.com

Nice deal on at present ...
    3-month minimum term (1 month notice thereafter) + 8meg ADSLMax + 30gig-peak + 300gig-offpeak + FREE activation = £14.99 pm for first 3-months (then £24.99 pm thereafter)

They also do a similar with only a 3-gig cap at £9.99 pm (rising to £19.99) IF you are a light user

    Cheers

  • I have taken up the 3 months 9.99 offer in view to get MAC after 3months and move to someone who will offer good migration package!good service so far.has anyone else done this?
    something missing
  • I signed up for the deal as quoted by Gold_Shogun above. I did this on 9 September (having seen a recommendation on one of the other threads on here) just after moving house. They gave me an activation date of 16 September. When I got home from work on 14 Sept the internet was on (3 days early) but the router (my existing one from my old house) kept locking up. This may just have been because the service was only just being connected though because the problem wasn't there the next day. Connection is shown as between 6MB and 8MB.

So I haven't been connected for long to really judge (and I am not a heavy user either) but it was connected quickly and seems ok so far and is pretty fast for my modest uses (email and web browsing).

One thing which is a bit annoying is that I can't use their smtp server with my existing email addresses - only with any provided by freeola. Some addresses I had allowed use of the hosting company's smtp. For others, I am using an existing AuthSMTP account as used for my notebook.

    Hi santana-mx3,

Can you please confirm if the freeola’s Newserver 'news.freeola.net' provides access to all the news groups ( I means Binary groups etc..)

    Gari..
  • Hi Gari,

Sorry - I only just saw your post. I don't use news groups so I'm afraid I don't know the answer to this. If there's something specific you'd like me to try out for you on my Freeola connection at home, please let me know.
