Writers, educaters and readers... I nead your help !

Right...

I was a tad tipsy last weekend  , and annoyed that the Liverpool Echo offers no consumer financial advice, fianancial education or anything of sorts.. So I sent the editor an email !

They are aware of my 'ask the analyst' thread and would like me to submit a dummy as if it were in the paper,.... This paper is read by the whole of merseyside !!!

Please help with a tad of guidence, ie : toplic, ideas and what YOU would like to read about in a regional paper...

Thanks guys...

Start with the importance of accurate budgeting - where to find spreadsheets, how to fill them in and plan ahead. Basic stuff to begin with. That's brilliant news Mike; I'm just sorry I don't live in your area so don't get to read it!

Post how the internet can be a useful resource for ideas. This contrasts with the smartest people you could meet are probably at you local library. Where would CAB be without sufficient funding ? What are local trading standard's team upto ?

  • Thaknks guys, isnt this good news.. Its a long shot but you never know....

I agree with the CAB, they need educating much much morev- or perhaps is this simply a funding issue.

The internet isnt used enough to teach, I work with people of all ages, walks of life and there are very few who use internet banking, indeed even get quotes online !

there is so much that can be said....

How about teaching teenagers how to budget and only spend when they have money and not before??

Start simply and with the basics. Remember in print you have no interaction and no way of linking so every phrase must be explained. Why not set it out as a question and answer session - and use a very generous and obvious questin to start (you'll have to make it up in the first one).

    E.g

I've always repaid my debts on time and earn a reasonable, but not great income. I got married recently and since have been rejected from the last two credit card applications? Has getting married changed this. What can I do to make sure, i have debts and wanted to get them more cheaply. Paul from Childwall.

Good luck with it - the more decent info out there the better.

(and of course do remember to tell them to come to this site ;)

Parks, provision for sport/coaching/recreation, grants up for grabs. Recycling provisions, rubbish on the streets. Funny smells from very large chemical companies.

    Im honoured !! Thabnk you.

I have just been speaking to my OH about this all... By all means writing and expressing myself has never been a vocation. But by doing this for free and at my own leisure, I can try and help and educate the people out there who really do not know, and there are many.

I know I have made mistakes, after all I make no excuses for stating that I am about to be bankrupt, but I have a mass of experience and just because a failed business has put me in my position, it means that I am more educated to help people in the future.

Flippin eck Mike, you dont do things by halves do you :T

I think financial education needs to start at school, get em savvy before they're even old enough to apply for a credit card.

Also, as Martin said (or should I call him Mr Lewis :D ), send the ones already in financial trouble here, and to CCCS, rather than them ending up with the Debt Management Companies that charge a fee
Is it better to aim for the stars and hit a tree or aim for a tree and land in its branches
