Sure it's allowed it's magnetic and doesn't damage anything, you just screw it between the water inlet tap and washing machines hose, if you follow the link in my earlier post it's there. :D

OK, seeing as it's acceptable in my council flat, I'll look into getting one. However, seeing as I don't touch eBay, I'll have to find one elsewhere.
  • I used to be a liquid girl until I went to Tescos last month when the big box (enough for 40 washes) of Ariel Actilift powder was on offer for £6 and it came with a free tub of Ariel Stain Remover powder. OMG it makes such a difference on my clothes. It gets rid of stains with such ease and leaves my clothes brighter. Think i'm going to stick to powder now, particularly as I didn't realise that the gels/liquids were bad for washing machines.

I prefer the powders myself, but because my machine doesn't like powders, I can't use it.
  • It takes time to ionise all the particles is the answer I have just been given by my OH, and it has to work it's way round the pipework in the house.

Plese note it is not a softener, it is a conditioner. Softeners are the ones that pump salt into your system making all water undrinkable except from a special drinking water tap. These add nothing to the water.

If you fit one to the pipe below your sink then you are fitting it in the wrong place, it has to be on the copper inlet pipe, and it certainly will not work on plastic piping.

People say everything is a scam at one time or another. All I know is that it works in our house, we have a lot of happy customers, and if it was a scam why would most people selling them offer a satisfaction guarantee saying you can return within 180 days if it is not working . I don't know about other brands, but we have very few returns.

Shame for me really. The location of my water stop tap is in a boarded up hole next to my gas meter in the corner under one of the counters in my kitchen.

It does not HAVE to be next to the stop tap, I was simply using it as illustration so people knew where the incoming main was, it can be on the pipe near that.

As for having no access to your stop tap, it might be a good idea to sort that out, what if you have a water leak and need to cut off your water?

  • Ooh good thread!

    Quick question ...

Do any of you that use Lidl powder have sensitive skin? Or babies?

I'm loking to economise and as we currently use Persil (non-bio) small and mighty and comfort or tesco pure conditioner this would seem to be where a small change could make a big difference! My only concern is I have fairly sensitive skin - nothing too bad but Daz gives me a rash and makes me itch, as do the heavily scented fabric conditioners. With an 8 month old to consider as well I'd love to hear from those who use these. Many thanks

It takes time to ionise all the particles is the answer

Ionise what particles? It can't be the water particles, the water in your system changes every time you turn the tap on. Turn the tap on and water comes out, and new water comes into your system at the other end.
I have just been given by my OH, and it has to work it's way round the pipework in the house.

But it's supposed to work on the water, not the pipes. The pipes stay the same, but the water changes every time you turn the taps on.

How does it take 4-6 weeks to work, when the water in your sytem gets replaced several time per day?
Plese note it is not a softener, it is a conditioner.

    Can you explain the difference?

What is the difference between softened water and conditioned water?
Softeners are the ones that pump salt into your system making all water undrinkable except from a special drinking water tap. These add nothing to the water.

So what do they do? If you don't know, just ask your husband, he designed the thing.
If you fit one to the pipe below your sink then you are fitting it in the wrong place, it has to be on the copper inlet pipe,

Why has it got to be fitted to the inlet pipe? The water flows through the inlet pipe at the same rate it flows through the outlet pipe.

It shouldn't matter whether you "condition" it as it flows into your system, or if you "condition" it as it flows out.

Either way, the same water is flowing through the pipe at the same rate.

Whenever you turn the tap on water is flowing out of your system, and an exact amount is flowing into it.
and it certainly will not work on plastic piping.

But it's supposed to work on the water, not the pipes?
People say everything is a scam at one time or another.

    And often they are right.
All I know is that it works in our house, we have a lot of happy customers, and if it was a scam why would most people selling them offer a satisfaction guarantee saying you can return within 180 days if it is not working . I don't know about other brands, but we have very few returns.

But you are selling these products, you wouldn't get many sales if you didn't say that.
  • Just a heads up to really recommend a product I've just used.
After receiving a stained top of Ebay (wasn't worth returning with the postage) my normal stain remover didn't work. I pretty much gave up hope of wearing the top. I then bought some Stain Devils from ASDA and they were amazing. This mystery stain (I presumed it was tea or coffee) came out after following the instructions on the bottle so it is now invisible. So pleased with them. Highly recommend getting them for tough stains. :)
  • I've lifted a few bits from our website. This is the last time I'm visiting this thread, we know some people do not believe this works, we only have our experience, and the fact we are selling loads with very few returns.

It takes time to work because the scale does not instantly come off the pipes, it happens gradually.

The reason it does not work on plastic pipes is that they are cannot carry a magnetic field.

I was sceptical until we actually tried one, and obviously some people will remain so whatever they are told. Just bear in mind sometimes things actually work when you do not expect them to.

Anyway, one or two excerpts from the website -I can't lift everything without revealing the name of the product and that would be against the rules.

The ** works by creating a magnetic field which effectively puts calcium salts, responsible for limescale, into suspension, thus providing a complete and permanent end to limescale problems. Not only does the process lead to softening and gradual break-up of existing limescale, but it also prevents the build up of future deposits - without depriving the water of calcium and other valuable minerals

The ** are Electronic Water Conditioners which use very powerful low frequency signals, which effectively treat all conditions of water and flow rates. The transmit these signals asynchronously via an aerial to create a strong magnetic field, which has the effect of altering the formation of calcium carbonate crystals (limescale), so that they remain in suspension in small particles and do not form hard crystalline deposits inside pipes, boilers and domestic appliances. This magnetic effect will gradually erode existing limescale deposits, thereby increasing the flow and efficiency of plumbing systems.

Recent research shows that this magnetic treatment can reduce calcium carbonate scale formation by up to 80%.
Modern development in the field of electronics has enabled us to bring about this revolution in water treatment. The result is effective breakdown of limescale and its prevention, without the problems of plumbing, installation, high running costs and maintenance. Moreover the ** have the advantage of retaining healthy minerals in the water and eliminating the need for a separate drinking water tap.

    HOW SOON WILL I BENEFIT?

In a very short time. In approximately four weeks you will notice the water begins to feel softer. Taps, shower heads and other outlets gradually lose their coating of scale. Lather will increase and the use of detergents will be reduced. Your appliances, washing machine, dishwasher, kettle, coffee maker, will all begin to shed their scale.
Most important of all are the effects you do not see. The ** will break down the limescale build up inside your hot tank, on the immersion heater and your heating system, including radiators.

    ** Tech Tips

Ideally the ** unit should be installed indoors, close to a power socket and the water pipe where the aerial coil is to be fitted. If the main water pipe is external to the building then the aerial cable must be run through the wall. Where buildings have the main water pipe located within the wall, then ideally a fitting position should be found where the pipe enters or exits the wall.
If LEDs stop flashing, turn off power for about 1 minute, then turn on again. If this does not activate the LED's flashing, then contact your supplier.
For improved performance, we have found that if the aerial leads are swapped over every 3 to 6 months, this will assist in the removal of existing limescale.
The **will lessen the limescale build up on heater elements, such as in a kettle. Instead there may be some soft limescale residue in the bottom of the kettle in particularly hard water areas. We suggest rinsing out the kettle every few days to remove this.

I can't see anywhere else where I could attach one.

As for access to the stop tap, all I need to do is remove 2 screws and pull the board away. However, I'd basically have to climb into the cupboard to get to the tap once the board is removed.

I've been using Lidl's Formil non-bio powder now for about 5 - 6 years and think that it's great. I don't use half the recommended amount of powder as on the box, just a wee bit. My DH has psoriasis, so it makes a difference to his skin. I live in a soft water area though, so don't have to use a water softener.

I've just bought a box of this and the non bio at the mo has 10% free so 66 washes for £6 odd but it was also voted good by GHI, so thats a good recommendation for me :T
