Starbucks is evil

Options
I'm hoping I'm posting this in the correct section of the forum. Praise, vent & warnings sounds the right place for this.

Just to start off, I am intolerant to caffeine, not allergic, but intolerant, as in it makes me sick.

This means that I can't have coffee, tea, cola, pepsi etc because of them having caffeine in them. So, I basically use decaff coffee.

One day, I went into a Starbucks and asked specifically for a decaff coffee. What did they do? They gave me regular coffee. So I was sick not long after that. I complained but even the manager didn't want to know.

A month later I had to go into a Starbucks again because that's where a bunch of my friends went into, so I thought I would be safe and ordered a Hot Chocolate. For the first time ever, I had a Hot Chocolate with caffeine in it. This time, it had so much caffeine in it, I almost ended up needed an ambulance, and the manager complained about me being sick in his shop. He looked offended when I eventually mentioned that I cannot have caffeine.

In Tesco's during this Saturday just gone, there was a woman working for Starbucks with a stand next to the coffee racks, offering free coffee samples. She offered me a sample, I asked if it was decaff, she said no. I looked at the stand and said "Starbucks huh. Starbucks puts caffeine in decaff coffee and hot chocolate." right in earshot of over half a dozen customers. Of course, the woman looked offended.

What is it with Starbucks and their caffeine overkill? I bet if you asked for a drink of water, they'd put caffeine in it.

Click here for a list of Starbucks drinks and the amount of caffeine that they contain.

I was a little suprised by the results as I thought decaf meant no caffeine as well. Learn something everyday.

Plus click here for a listing of common UK drinks and their caffeine content.

Cocoa definitely contains caffeine therefore I thought all chocolate products had it in it. I'm a bit puzzled by you ordering a hot chocolate and then complaining because you got one, it's up to you to ask if they can guarantee it doesn't contain caffeine.

PS Apparently, to qualify as 'de-caf', a coffee must have less than 2.5% of caffeine levels, NOT be absolutely, totally and completely caffeine free.

Sorry OP but it sounds as if you haven't done your homework properly regarding your caffeine intolerance - can't blame Starbucks.

Decaf products still contain caffeine, as does chocolate. There are products they sell which are totally caffeine free, they can be found in their nutritional information.

I agree that the staff probably could have acted better, but to say Starbucks are evil is a bit of an exaggeration!

Your obviously not that intollerant as you keep going back. If it was that much of an issue you would have done some research and found out that Cocoa and decaff do contain caffeine.

Peter Sutcliff, Fred west they are evil. Starbucks just made a mistake the first time the second visit was just because you were a little clueless about cocoa

Next time you feel obliged to give starbucks, costa, nero or ritazza some business get a steamer instead, they steam the milk hot then add it to a flavoured syrup. That way you will get no caffeine - unless you get chocolate syrup of course.

There are six sources of caffeine in nature Tea leaves, Coffee beans, Guarana (the Amazonian soapberry), Matê (also known as Brazilian tea), Cola nuts and Cocoa beans.

And please stop being such a drama queen Starbucks are evil, who are you a G8 protestor ;)

Starbucks as a chain is singular, as branches are plural. Both can be right right rob.

Even decaff coffee has a small amount of caffeine in it. Try an entirely different drink
