iPhone 4 - Looking Poorly Bad

My mate has done something - don't know what - to his iPhone 4 and now all he gets is on the screen is a graphic telling him to attach the phone via the usb and start up iTunes. When he does this, however, he gets a message requesting the drivers for the phone. He tells me this happened when he was trying to update to 4.0.2 directly from 4.0.0. He swears that he hasn't jalibreaked it.
Any ideas?

Mine did that too, updating to 4.0.2.
Just need to reconnect to iTunes and run emergency recovery. There's a link on Apples support how to do this, but mine did it automatically. Takes forever though

I'm not impressed. Just spoke to the guy and Tesco sorted his phone for him (took approx 30 mins) but he has now admitted that he had illegal content on the phone.
I won't be making any effort to help him in the future. If I've helped you please show your appreciation by using the "Thanks" button

That's down to each individual to decide whether that is what they want to do or not. I do not appreciate someone who I considered to be a friend lying to me and if he comes to me again to seek help for a mobile related problem he'll need the services of a proctologist long before he gets Tesco mobile to fix it for him.If I've helped you please show your appreciation by using the "Thanks" button

It is, I have never done it but I know people who have to get £69 Apps for free. In a way it's piracy, but what's the difference on copying as music CD at home and getting a free app.0
