Ubuntu upgrade ruined my netbook-Help

If you download the Ubuntu alternate CD and boot from it, you'll find a "Rescue a broken system" option. Click through until you'll be asked for the root filesystem. If you installed Ubuntu on a single partition, then it should be /dev/sda1. If you have separate partitions for /boot and /home, then you should know which one your root partition is.
After this you select "Reinstall GRUB boot loader", type in /dev/sda on the next screen and reboot.
If this doesn't work, do the same again but chose "Execute a shell in /dev/sdaX" instead of "Reinstall GRUB". At the command prompt you type in "update-grub", hit Ctrl+D after it finished and reboot.0 -
Just a quick update, got home late last night, tried all the suggestions at the grub rescue prompt all to no avail. With the help of DD reinstalled Ubuntu from USB and everything ir running okay again.

It can be temperamental. If it says it is not working or to install a plug in try turning off and restarting your browser and it usually fixes it.The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

I have used Ubuntu a few times, and have a install disc.
Although it's not the best operating system around, I think it's great for using the internet for.
Regards your problem, I doubt very much it was the 'software' that caused your problems!
Please expand on the fact that it in your view it was not the software that caused my problem!0 -
