You will need a phone with gps or aGPS, in either case the phone will eat up battery consumption when in sat nav mode.
I use sygic 10 on my handset, I also have a tomtom 1 v2 and it is easily as good probably better than the tomtom.

You can get sat nav apps for phones that work just like a dedicated Sat Nav. Alternatively on Android phones (and possibly others) you can use Google Navigation which is free but does download data from the net as you drive.

I use my Nokia 5800 Xpress Music as a sat nav also. You get free sat nav for life with Ovi maps and it doesn't need to connect to the internet at all as all the maps are stored on the phone. I bought a windscreen holder and in car charger for £4.99 from Ebay. The maps are updated for free to the latest editions unlike my old Garmin sat nav that wanted 70 quid or so to update them. Well recommended from me!

  • The other half has a Nokia 5230 - most simple phone I have saw as she wanted a touch screen. Free Sat Nav with Ovi maps & also came with free phone holder - really simple to use phone and sat nav. As MeeNor says all on the phone and you dont have to connect to get charged extra. The sales men said if you want a manly one then go with Nokia X6 16GB - have a look, free stuff was being offered by orange and tmobile at the time.

Nokia 5230 would be good for you. Very cheap on pay as you go and a big screen, included free satnav (and GPS receiver). Can be picked up new for as little as £60.

Can you please point me to a place where this is available new for £60.
The cheapest I could find for £60 was a refurbished piece on three network's website.
