which shops charge for carrier bags?

I always have a bag with me, but what is it with stores that think it is more environmentally friendly to provide paper bags. In the first case they actually use more resources to produce, and secondly I have seen a lot of people having to replace the Primark carriers with plastic ones from another store because they have broken.
I have never paid for a carrier bag, but surely a strong plastic bag that can be re-used umpteen times is better than a crummy paper bag that breaks before you get your goods home, meaning you then have to use a plastic bag donated by a sympathetic shop. What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0 -

Holland & Barrett charge for all bags. The got rid of all plastic bags at the start of the year & now have only paper and "bags for life" (cotton or jute).0

co op in england charge to
Ours started charging for about 2 days then scrapped it -whilst on the whole I do take my own bags, sometimes I pop into the shop just to get one or 2 things so don't have my bag but end up buying a basket full so on those occasions I do have to have a carrier bag.0 -
