I am thinking I should read some of these self help books - how to get rich by Felix Dennis seems as good a place to start as any.0

Your plan to go to York University followed by acturial training is good starting point, so is your plan to stick to a budget while at York. Too many students go off the rails with credit/debit card in hand when they start at university and much of their spending is peeed against the wall.
Hence unmanageable debt.
I know three extremely wealthy individuals, two of whom are multi millionaires. The two richest did not go to university but instead trained as accountants. The third left university and trained as an accountant. They are mature individuals now and the world has changed since they were your age but you get the pattern?
You are a risk taker, hence your gambling. Taking a carefully calculated risk in business is fine but reconsider the gambling. Get your thrills on the fantasy share portfolio idea.
Training in accountancy would mean that when you are running your own business or CEO of a large organisation you will not need anyone else to tell you whether the sums add up and what is too risky.
These three individuals are all driven and totally focused. At least one is a workaholic.
Playing devil's advocate, why do you want to be rich? If you are a workaholic there's very little time left to spend and enjoy.
Is it status you crave?
Ask yourself why and see if you can identify what being rich means to you.
Those self help books, do you think they were written to help people or to make money for the author? Don't bother reading them.
Instead start networking now and learn from successful people, you won't do it by sitting at your laptop. Put yourself about.
A network is absolutely invaluable.
Hope you find what you makes happy.0 -

depends what you enjoy doing.but i would try and get on the property ladder as soon as you can ,2 reasons, if luck is on your side & you know your stuff then bit by bit you can build (not as in get your tools out) other reason if you dont make it rich then atleast you have less pressure of trying to pay your morgage of in later years...But from the few mates i know with bit of bunce (not really rich but v well off,the porch.3 houses ect)they looked burnt out/over weight/stressed,so if you you think that wouldnt happen to you then go for it,but dont end up being the richest man in the graveyard
ps,dont get married, you just aswell find someone you dont get on with & give them half your house & half your money! ;00 -
