greenbee - I have been doing this for a while, after DS1 had a stop over some shorts I was planning to buy for him. I gave him £10 a month clothing allowance, which was only for casual clothes. I bought all underwear, school uniform and shoes, and shower gel, hair gel etc

He learned very quickly to shop in TKMaxx or on ebay, even in charity shops if he wanted the designer labels...:D I increased it by £5 a month each year, until earlier this year, when he started getting JSA. He also sold old toys and games etc on ebay if he wanted to get new games. When he and his brother had saved half toward a PS3, then I matched it and we bought it for a joint Christmas present. Oh, I also gave him some extra fritter money, and one £10 top up a month. I know it doesn't sound very much, but I was only working 12 hours a week as a gardener, so didn't earn very much either!

I have been doing the main bedroom on and off this morning, and also some gardening. Everyone is out - it's eerily quiet in here. I think I'll go out for a bit - I was thinking of the allotment, but it's threatening rain at the moment.

The bedroom was looking great for a while, until everything from the living room was dumped there while we redecorated, and I've not managed to relocate all the stuff. I removed another three bags today, which makes another clear space. I'm hoping to persuade DS1 to set up the new printer later which would mean another space. I'm now looking for a new bookshelf for all my copies of Gardens Illlustrated (the only magazine I keep, and which I will not dispose of!). I still need a suggestion for all my school stuff - I think mrsgnomey told me she uses huge memory sticks - but I still have files and paper, and really need to find somwhere to store them. Maybe need to have a huge fling in the kitchen to free up some space on the bookshelf in there...

I've decided to sell the collections of First Day Covers (mine and my Dad's), as I haven't collected them for about 20 years.

It seems a bit brighter, so I'm off to get some fresh air for a while!

Thats great news pigpen but I know what you mean about being in shock I was for days after I got awarded it for DS, enjoy it it will make life a bit easier, as you got high rate mobillity you could look at getting a car with it.

I don't know how that works.. we have been sent the forms for the free tax disc but are unsure whether we can do that with the car belonging to OH and he isn't her parent or guardian... I'll go have a browse of the disability board I think.. if anyone want me.. I'm over there... asking stoooopid questions lol

Could you dye the whole lot? Dark blue or black maybe?

Feeling a little better today, still not 100% though.

Have done some ironing, put the shopping away, S&S'd the kitchen, done 2 loads of washing.
Got all DDs school stuff washed and ironed for tomorrow:T

Any suggestions as to how much a nearly-16-year-old just about to go into his last GCSE year should be given, and what items it should cover?

My mum used to give me the child benefit money every month, but I had to cover just about everything with that and it worked out ok (I was good with money in those days :o).
DS1 earns £25 per week with his paperround and I give him another £5. I buy most toiletries and essential clothes, but 'needs' ony, rather than 'wants'. I also pay for his guitar lessons. His mobile phone is on a good value contract in my name and for which I pay, in return for on-demand babysitting. (Child benefit goes into a separate account to cover kids' expenses when I'm short - otherwise it is saved.) That said, I've just stopped everything apart from the phone until he starts pulling his weight around the house and treats me properly. ;)
DS2 should really be getting pocket money by now, but I need to decide on the amount.

ETA Pigpen - a friend of mine has a motability car but is on holiday until Monday. I can ask her when she's back.

Bathroom done. Mantlepiece clear. lounge windows cleaned. 4 bags of 'stuff' to dump. Naughty waitrose shop in the fridge (well a worker has to eat!!) just having a sit down and coffee then going to venture into 'that' corner. Yikes.

Spent a bit of time sorting our room, all rubbish lifted, bed made, floor cleared, shoes and clothes moved.
