I've never had a problem before with saving pictures as jpg, jpeg, jpe, jif, tif, ping, dib, bmp etcs.. These days however I'v been able to save them only as a bmp files. This has become an issue because it means I can't do anything with such large files. The resize sites say it's huge file, the windows gallery says it's a format that cannot be fixed and supposedly animated images are static. Some pictures I save even come up as a black square. How do I get pictures to save as any other files other than bmp?

Method 1
Delete the temporary Internet files. To do so, click Tools, click Internet Options, click the General tab, and then click the Delete Files button.
I'm always having to bring up the task manager and end the process.Method 2
To work around the problem, click Tools, click Internet Options, click the Advanced tab, click to clear the Do not save encrypted pages to disk check box, click View, and then click Refresh. The Do not save encrypted pages to disk check box is under the Security section.
this link suggests:To work around this behavior, add the proper extension to the file name in the File name box.0 -
Proper extension? File name box? I don't even understand that
When you do the 'Save As' dialog, you should have a text entry field where you can enter the name of the file, so you can add the extension to the filename. ie don't save is as MyPicture, but save it as MyPicture.jpegHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. Which applications or programs are you saving them from?
Are you going through a 'Save As...' dialog - if so, belwo the filename box there's usually a drop-down box allowing you to select the file type.0 -

Yes. But that's the issue that the drop down box gives me only one option and that is the bmp file. It doesn't give the original name either - it suggests the name untitled which wouldn't normally happen if you rght click a picture to save.DVardysShadow wrote: »Files are named <filename>.<extension>. Please excuse my ignorance but what is PEBKAC? I'm not techi so I don't understand any related abbreviations or jargon. Sorry.
There's no specific page as such or no specific intention to "do" something with it.
The system of saving an image file is corrupted and that's it. If you look at the link posted by Phantom Flan Flinger, you'd realise it is a known issue and not that there's anything insideous about what I "do".
For instance, if I try to save one of the cartoons from an online newspaper to post on a thread. I right click it and it saves it but as a bmp file untitled. Now if it turns out to be a big file, I'll want to resize it. The resize doesn't permit me to resize it into a smaller size - so I have to convert it to a jpeg file using paint. Sometimes even tinypic plays up with bmp files refusing to upload. Likewise if I try to crop a bmp image on windows photo gallery, it would say it isn't possible to fix an image with bmp format as in:
I'm exhausted by now. I think I'll stick with my problem.0 -

As you are not going to google for it, PEBKAC = Problem Exists Between Keyboard And Chair.
But I don't put that in order to have a go at you. Phantom Flan Flinger's link indicates that there is a known issue. But it can also be a user problem. That is why I suggested you post up an example of what you are trying to do. I don't think you can expect to save a *.bmp file as *.jpeg - I am open to correction if IE does do this - but I would expect you to be stuck with the format it has on the web page and have to convert later with Paint.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. When I use IE it is saved as bmp and no other options: (the image is named untitled)
It is a technical issue and nothing to do with me doing something wrong because this is a problem I noticed since one of the IE updates and one I never had before the update.DVardysShadow wrote: »I would expect you to be stuck with the format it has on the web page and have to convert later with Paint.0 -
Have a look at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/810978/en-us
Found it by going to http://support.microsoft.com/
Then -> Advanced search and entered "saving jpeg files" for Internet explorer. The link I gave you is 4th down.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0
