When I got married in 2000 my Husband took my surname. We married in Las Vegas and when we got home my Husband sent our marriage certificate off to the passport office, Banks etc and said he would be taking my surname. There was no proble at all and they all chasnged their documents etc. He did not need a deedpoll to do this the marriage certificate was acepted.

  • I'll never forget a certain young lady who should have got her Husband to take her name! When married she became Mrs Emma Royds.

    Work it it yourself!

Well, my mate's surname is King and his other half is pregnant & he is insisting on calling him Wayne if it's a boy or Jo for a girl....

    Count yourself lucky!
  • My husband took my surname when we married. Mainly because he is a Jones whereas my surname is more unusual and i am one of three girls and my dad an only child, so I was the end of the line as it were. I think officially you don't have to do deed poll because anyone can start using a different name providing it is not for fraudulent purposes. A couple of companies did ask to see the deed poll we got though when informing them of the change

Change was done via the confetti website btw. Was very very easy and think it cost £30.

i love my married name as it is so much quicker to write my signature now (its only 5 letters and my maiden name is 9 letters!)and it is a great name for writing complaints!!!:D

I changed my name many years ago (long story, didnt want to get married, but wanted our children to have the same name as both of us) by deed poll, and i didnt have to pay. I knew someone who worked in a solicitors office, who printed off the official wording for a name change, and then got my bank manager to sign the declaration of me changing my name. it was definatly legal and above board. Mind you, when we split up, i did change my name back to my maiden name (didnt want his name after our split!!!!) and this time i did it through a solicitor, purely because i was having dealings with him regarding other matters.

  • I'd assumed when you signed the register, you could take either name. Seems a bit sexist in this day and age. Why should you have to pay for it?

You sign the register in your maiden name.
