Comparing Running Costs of Remoska/Pressure Cooker/Slow Cooker

I have had a remoska for three years and I love it.0

I have a remoska which I treated myself to about two years ago and I think they are brilliant I live alone so putting my oven on to cook something just for me, unless I am doing a lot of baking is a waste. I also have a slow cooker which I absolutely would be lost without it cooks cheaper cuts of meat so tenderly.I usually put my SC on last thing at night before I go to bed and my soups/ stews/ ect are cooked to perfection by the morning. I definitely think I have saved on my electricity by using my 'moska' more than the oven0

I bought a very cheap slow cooker to try it out, and LOVE it!
Now I know I'll actually use it, I'm going to upgrade to one which is a bit more user friendly (this one is difficult to clean properly, there isn't really a difference between the hi and low settings and the capacity is a bit too big for me as I usually cook for one).
But then I saw the Remoska, and wondered which is more versatile? At the moment I don't have a working oven or hob, so something which I could start browning meat in, or at a pinch, frying bacon or onion would be great. If I can make other things in it, that would be a bonus!
I don't want to get both unless they do completely different things... which do OS peeps think is better?0 -
I have, and love, both, the remoska is used almost daily and the slowcooker is used more than once a week. I tend to get more use out of the slowcooker at the start of the month to cook for the freezer. Then towards the end of the month I use the remoska to cook the ready meals I made in the slowcooker. For me, they compliment each other really well. There are two of us and so I don't really like putting the oven on just for a couple of jacket potatoes, pasta bake, batch of scones or whatever, the remoska is great for that, and it is good for a cooked breakfast too!0

I have neither
I batch cook casseroles, soups, stocks and pasta sauces in the Rayburn or on the hob. I have a "baking day" where I put the Rayburn or oven on high and bake cakes, buns, bread, pies, quiche.
Take a look at this older thread for more opinions; I'll merge this later.:rudolf: Sheep, pigs, hens and bees on our Teesdale smallholding :rudolf:0 -
Thanks both - so I could use the Remoska like a slow cooker, but also use it as an oven/hob for cakes etc? The remoska sounds like the winner.
Lucky you Penelope...I don't have a hob or oven at the moment, and no money to buy them this winter, so it's microwave or slowcook EVERYTHING (and that is certainly a challenge!). I also don't have a freezer (just a fridge with no freezer compartment), so can't do batch cooking, hence not wanting a giant slow cooker :-)0 -
Not sure about using the Remoska as a slow cooker as it actually cooks quite hot and for some things you have to put foil over the top of things so they don't get burnt. You couldn't for instance leave it cooking something all day like you can with a sc. I think alec eiffel's advice above is good though. I used to have a sc and gave it away as I thought everything tasted the same and it all fell apart, whereas I LOVE my Remoska and use it almost every day and very seldon put my big oven on, thus saving a lot of money (a £600 refund from the elec co last year) Could you borrow a Remoska from someone to see if you liked it ? There are people on here who LOVE slow cookers and others who LOVE Remoskas - and I don't think there are many people (I may be wrong) who get on well with both. Just to confuse things further I now also have a Kuhn Rikon pressure cooker from Lakeland which I really find useful too, and have no need of a SC.0

Sorry if what I said was confusing, I cook a big batch of something in the slowcooker at the start of the month and freeze in it individual servings. Then when I'm ready to eat it I put it straight in the remoska from frozen so it's just like cooking a ready meal. So it's not like a slowcooker at all, but they do compliment each other really well imo.0 -
I gave my slow cooker away after I bought the bigger remoska. No contest as far as I am concerned as the results from the remoska are always fantastic and it cooks such a great variety of food. The big big bonus is that it is SO moneysaving0
