lol. Only problem is we are all guessing. It can go one of two way. But without me have the post code and house number i have no way of knowing what is on the transco database so we are only just guessing. From the people i have delt with i have never has a customer that have been back bill. unless the supplier has has the Mprn registered but not billed it for what ever reason. If xoserve are asking them to register to a supplier then that means there is no way to back bill as they supplier can only bill from the date they register the Mprn

I do not work in the Utility industry, so no experience. However, surely common sense applies? The gas has been coming from somewhere, you have been using the gas and now must surely expect to receive a bill.

    I'd start saving now.
  • Well you would think that but you would not believe the amount of people that get away with it. The only people that can bill you are the suppilers eg Bgas, Npower, SSE... Xoserve are like Transco they own the pipe work and look after the meters and hold all the metering info... Now If the MPRN number is not registered or there is no Mprn number for a property then a supplier can't bill the customer until they take supply of that MPRN. There is no way that a supplier can backdate the COS (Change Of Supply) process so they can only bill from the day they take supply. Like i said some time you will have a supplier that has the Mprn registered to them but have not billed it due to not knowing a meter is there are just a mistake of not setting up an account for a customer in these cases the supplier will back date all the charges. But as xoserve are asking him to register to a supplier then that means its a shipper less supply (gas companys are called shippers) and can only be billed as of the date a new supplier gains it via the COS process and that can take up to 28 day from the day you sign up to a gas supplier

   I bet the losses do not come out of the difends:rolleyes: It's about time some system were put in place so that those who receive a supply pay for it in such cases.

Another example of the business- skikked toty privatisers mucking it up.
  • God i hate someone who knows alittle knowledge and applys it to everything....this is not correct a new meter ref number will not be issued as there already one there, as the meter would not be installed without it. please take my word for it I deal with this every day of the week monday to Friday 8 hours a day..

Guys if ya going to give info please check that you are right..

Please dont judge me or send me PM's. You dont know who i am or what i do. God i hate people who think they know it all as well. You dont know everything and prob never will. just because you work for bgas dont think that you know what is going to happen in this case. I know for a FACT that a meter will be installed without a MPR number being raised and i have had to deal with customers that this has happened to before... I can't be 100% that the customer will not be charged BUT I am 99% sure that they wont. If they do get back billed i will stand corrected this time but until then please dont PM me and try and tell me about the job i have been doing for years.

I'm not an industry insider but from experience, OP will register with new provider who will ask for starting reading. They will then get charged from that point. They will have gotten away with it. We know it, they know it, new supplier will know it. But its unlikely that anything will happen.

In theory it would be possible to trace the previous residents bill and charge from their final reading but in practice it never seems to happen.

Is it illegal? I doubt it.
    Is it immoral? Yes.
Would I do it too? Yes. - I've been scr*wed too many times by these companies to care.

They may be shipperless but someone had to arrange the installation of the meter and last time I checked that had to be done through a supplier.

Transco will willingly go an install pipes etc but are not so willing to go installing meters just for fun.

I'm not getting involved in this dispute but would imagine if its shipperless then its because the supply has not been used since the 70s or its a new build and then it would fall to the builders and who they used.

Ture there must be a reason why the meter was installed. It could be that the paperwork the meter man filled in when he installed the meter got lost or maybe transco removed it from there records by mistake. Its just one of them things. So many reasons why they have not got a supplier but it dont really matter sign up with someone and give them the up todate reading when they ask. That should be the last you hear of it then

On our new build the developer went round the house with me on the day of completion and we did all the meter readings. They'd been using electricity and water (and possible gas too) when they'd been on site, so I imagined that they were (temporarily at least) "customers" of all the utility companies? So surely when they finished on site they would have notified whoever they'd been paying for the services? If not, then maybe they've been paying your gas bill for the past year...
