HTC Hero Firmware Version???

I have got a 2nd hand Hero and just checked the Firmware Version and its showing as 1.5

Is that the upto date Version or is there another one that i need to download?

Also why does Marketplace look so Diff to what it does on a Desire with 2.1 on it?

Also how do i check if there is a new update on the hero?

go to marketplace online. its up to date, the handset one isnt always!

Ive got a Desire and Hero and both Markets are Diff the Hero one does not have the Gray banner at top with Market place in it but Desire does and there are Apps on Desire marketplace which are not on the hero one.

But do i have the up to date updates on my Hero?

Also the ebay app is on desire one but not on hero!!!

yea i have the same prob with my HD2! its a MP problem! i just download to phone from web version as its up to date. but then ill go back on the MP on my handset and it'l still let me download it. weird! but the web 1 is defo better!

some of the apps not on the web marketplace i get from omarket. its all weird! try just googling the latest version and just check it against what u have and work from there. I have to do this as I have to manually update everything for the HD2. nothing is auto.

Trouble is i dont know what the most up to date update is for the hero.

2.1 is the latest firmware for the Hero, but it hasn't been deployed by all if the networks yet. However, if your phone us an unbrsnded one, you can get it now. Have you got HTC Sync installed on your PC?

Dont think ive got HTC Sync on my pc so how can i do it?

My phone is a unbranded and unlocked.

get the latest version from htc website. the synch software will be different for different models from htc. you should have got the 2.1 software update. if you didnt accept it when sent out then might take a further 2 weeks to get another alert or try manual update as done on the desire.

you could always try the manual software update option on your hero and see if there are any new updates.

2.1 is the latest firmware for unbranded handsets but might be lower ones for branded ones if the network hasnt got their act together yet on thier branded version. if the phone is out of guarantee then you might as well flash a better 2.2 rom from cyanogen etc and get better functionality from the hero instead of being on 2.1 or lower.

please note that even an old lower end handset like the magic after being flashed with one version of cyanogen 2.2 beat the stock samsung galaxy s in speed and processing for video!!!! so good software counts a lot too atleast as much as the hardware. any phone out of its guarantee period might as well be flashed with the latest software versions available from xda or shipped roms or other websites.

On my Hero there is no where that gives me the choice to Manual download it ive looked and cant see it anywhere.

It just gives me under Security it says Firmware download then when i click on that it tells me download automatically or prompt before download or never and ive ticked prompt before download so it does not give me a choice to look for a update.
