Those suction bath grab rails -any experiences?

I'd be very wary of them because the weight of somebody grabbing them and then slipping would surely be enough to pull tiles off a wall, and injure themselves.
Two alternative options to consider;
1. A small plastic stool which sits inside the bath on which she could sit to have a bath.
2. You don't say whether your overhead shower is fixed, or with a portable hose. If it's the latter, a bath board seat which rests across the bath is an alternative option as she could sit on that and move the shower hose around herself.0 -
Many thanks for all the ideas and views. I'll forget the grab rail idea, though might investigate the gizmo that sits on the edge of the bath a bit more.
She's as agile as I am (more so!) and doesn't need a seat or anything, but thanks for the idea. She's fine about standing in the bath, and getting in and out, it's just a little something to steady her that I felt might be helpful, for example when standing on one foot to scrub your toes! Twould be better in fact to have nothing at all.
There is a sink next to the bath, which would give a bit of support if needed, if the curtain was pulled back. I'll ask her what she thinks.
Thanks everyone.0 -
Strange to read so any negatives about suction handles; I have on to help me out of the bath and it has never let me down in 3 years. One of the best things that I have had.0

I have one that I use for balance more then anything but .... I always give a good tug before using it and remove it and replace it when I clean the bath so the suction is always a 'fresh' one.Mags - who loves shopping0

Temporary solution we used for an elderly relative to enable them to use the overbath shower was two kitchen chairs. One with its back agaiinst the bath and the other with its back at a right angle to the bath.
The seat backs are about the height of hand rails and are stable under a downward pressure.0 -
I have two suction handles that I use to get in and out of the shower, attached onto my tiles.
I have always been careful (I don't want to pull the tiles off), I always 'test' a handle before I use it, as they do come loose with time, and I never put my full weight on one.
I use them to steady myself, as I lose my balance quite easily, and I think they are marvellous, and would recommend them!
Hope that helps!0 -

I got some suction handles for £5 each at TKMaxx and I find them pretty good. I was worried they wouldn't stick very well and I do check them regularly to see if they are coming loose but I haven't had any problems so far.0

My mum has permanent bath rails in their bathroom which were fitted by social services after she had her stroke. She has one of those suction handles to use when my parents are on holidays. That's always worked fine when needed, but have heard the stories that they can bring tiles off the walls.0
