totally with you on that score PN. I very nearly bought one sandwiched between a river and a canal.

I remember it. Wise decision. You'd also have had every Tom, !!!!!! & Harriet past your place at all hours on the towpath, dodgy anglers digging for worms in your garden at night, plus the joy of family hordes at weekends. :(

Needed a spot of TLC too, didn't it? Maybe even GBH? ;)

As I thought, the effect on the price of your property would be your first concern.

How about this - HELP ME I AM DROWNING...

:rotfl: I can imagine if floods were to wipe out much of the housing in this country we'd see lots of  smileys in this forum from those not affected

It was 5 minutes walk from my office, not sure if that was a plus point or not! It was a newish house only 11 years old. Decoratively all up together.

The one I've ended up buying cost £50k less (or fewer pounds if NDG is reading :rotfl:) This one isn't on a flood plain (I'm the other side of the A4).
Mortgage free as of 10/02/2015. Every brick and blade of grass belongs to meeeee. :j

As a percentage, how many would be 'unaffected'?

    How would they hide?

What would happen here if floods similar to the curent Pakistani experience, or other recent 'natural' disasters, wiped out all our normal expectations of life?

Probably loads of, like, stuff would happen. I guess.

Dunno about anyone else, but dopester gave me a key to his nuclear fall out shelter. Hope it's waterproof.

I live 500ft above sea level and way higher than the nearest river or valley. I thought that was really good until the 18" water main in my street burst. I know now that putting polythene with duck tape over the house's air bricks is a really good idea if water is coming. I doubt they had that in Pakistan.

Anyone who's anyone knows that dopester would be good company.

And although he'd be initially be a bit annoyed that you hadn't had the forethought to stockpile your own rice, he'd happily share his around without a word of complaint.
