I actually liked it *prepares to be attacked*

But I guess because I am getting married abroad with no one but us (my family suck so we decided to go where they couldn't come, lol) for me it seemed almost normal to not have everyone there!

Just watched it with OH and all I've got to say is, what a mess.
Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...
  • it truly was nail biting stuff. only came across it by chance as i was about to hit the hay. was v tired this morning!

i was willing her (ie shouting at the tele) to stick to her guns and not go, or maybe go and have a nice jolly hollybags and tell him to stuff his wedding.

she looked awful in his dress choice - ruffs and roses in all the wrong places made her look huge. however her choice wasn't much better. (imo, obviously) but she could have got a really nice frock for less than 1500 quid surely!

ah well, only time will tell how long it lasts. at least they've got a recurring argument theme....

ok the dress was bad to us but did you see her? she sparkled more than the dress but when she put the ruffles n roses(my dream dress:o:D) she did look like a frump lol she just didnt feel good in it
one womans dream is anothers toilet roll holder

    I agree.

Personally, I did like the groom's choice of dress better, and I thought that it suited the bride better - in theory.

However, her reaction showed that it's not just about how it looks, it's also about how it feels.

Because the bride felt better in the dress she chose, she looked better in it. Her posture was better, she looked happier (glowed). It worked with and for her.

In the other dress, she didn't feel right, and that came across. Making the dress look 'wrong'. Even though - objectively - it may have been more suited to her.

When it comes to clothes, 'feeling comfortable' is a big part of looking good. Especially with something like a wedding dress. (Or groom's clothes).

I am a complete sucker for the "no one but us there" approach to marriage. To me, it sums up the idea that it's all about two people making a commitment to each other. The rest is an excuse to party... Arguably.

At the same time, as a family person, with a huuuge extended family, I recognise the pressures to have a huuuge number of people present. And the fact that you might want to have some/ a lot of those people at your wedding - because they're important to you.

That said, a couple can 'elope' and get married quietly - just the two of them - without needing to go abroad. It depends what your priorities are.

As far as the TV programme is concerned, the bride had stated clearly that she wanted her family (and friends) at her wedding.

The groom's plans/approach to budgeting meant that she didn't even have all of her close family there (or his close family).

That mean that he either had no idea what his life's partner wanted, or that he didn't care about it.

Eithe way, it's probably not the best start to married life...
  • We watched last night. I loved the show I don't think she should have married him though I just don't think he has any idea what she is about and to not consider her in the plans was awful.

It was slightly amusing the way they kept flicking between her at home talking about this grand affair in a country house and then flicking to him in vegas on the lash with his best man it kinda made you wanna shout at the tv. The way the mother was in it thats exactly what my mum would be like went along with it but not happy about it.

I'd have been fuming if I was her really I would but my OH would never have done that to me, that said my ex would have loved to do it it was his dream to get married in vegas and not one I shared.

These shows still amaze me where a couple look like they have never even discussed it I just don't get it we talked loads about dreams of what a wedding would look like even before we got engaged obviously not the intricate details but definately an image was built up.

I watched and ended up feeling really sorry for both of them. I wondered how much they were manipulated by the tv crew too.

I couldn't believe how stupid he was for organising a Vegas wedding when he himself said how family orientated she was and how he must have known she'd hate the whole concept of it. I guess the £12k went to his head though and he looked truly mortified when he realised he'd totally screwed up.

TBH, if I was her I wouldn't have gone, tv contract or not. I would rather lose the £12k than have my wedding without the family and friends who made ours such a memorable day.

I didn't like the dress he chose her, she hated it and it did nothing for her, but to then spend another £1500 on another just seemed ludicrous to me.

Oh well, each to his own....I can never understand why people want to go on these shows anyway, a wedding is such a personal experience and should be planned by both partners. There is too much at stake when things go wrong IMO.

Saying that, I still watched and loved it for its "entertainment" value :rotfl:
  • I can't believe she got on the plane, I really don't think I would have. But saying that I thought she was being a bit unreasonable when she wa sin the dress shop demanding £1500-odd quid for a dress, she could easily have got a less expensive one within the £800 he gave her to spend.
  • OMG just watched this vegas one, so shocking she must have killed him.

I love this show so much. The best one has to be the HMS belfast one cos the couple looked so genuinely in love, and she looked amazing. That one was about the love, he did some quirky things, but she was so in love with him she just loved everything. Thats what getting married should be, not about how expensive the rings are or how lush the wedding is, its about the two people.

Some of them you can tell theyre just doing it for a free wedding. The HMS belfast and Bristol one were both so appreciative and lovely....
