Just had a major shock the postie has just delivered a nice Christmas present from our Housing Association
they are to increase there communal heating charges in the New Year from £34.30 to £74.39 per month a monthly increase of £40.09 percentage wise this is a whopping increase of 116.9%
the communal heating charges are not included in our Housing Benefit so the extra charges will come directly out of our pocket
Hi amilucky it does seem a lot to have increased it by. Have you asked them for a breakdown by block of what the overall heating costs?
My mum pays her heating in the rent with the council and it was just under £20 per week. However, we got onto it and asked for a breakdown per block as that much pw for a 1 bedroom mid terrace flat was excessive. The council took over a year to get all the breakdowns done and she has just had a rebate of £276 that she was overcharged and my son in laws dad who lives near me has had a whopping £500 credited back to his rent account.
IIt seems they were taking the amound as a whole then just dividing it by the number of flats which was grossly unfair. It might be worth asking if they can do the breakdown for you.
Hope everyone is haviong some luck today. I got a wem to say I won on the Nivea promises on facebook today so that's a nice little stocking filler for someone.
Off to try to do some comps as I need an early night tonight.
Good luck trying to sort it out amilucky. If at first you don't succeed try, try, try again.

To be fair Crin they have given everyone a complete breakdown of all of the charges
I now need to go into them in some detail but apparently they have incurred more costs than they have budgeted for in the last two years which wasn't immediately passed on and this accounts for £25.27 of the increase0 -

I have gone into the figures in more detail and have decided that as the deficits and shortfalls occurred in previous years before we where tenants (only became tenants in August) then the £25.27 part of the proposed increase\claw-back maybe shouldn't be applied to us and other new tenants
I have asked the Housing Estate Manager the question and she tends to agree
there is a meeting on the 14th of December so I am going to write a letter which will be passed on by the Housing Estate Manager at the meeting0 -
Hi everyone,
Hope you are all coping ok. It took DH and me about half an hour to get our car defrosted and ready to go out today and then we had to put grit down on the drive as it was turning to ice where water had fallen. Think someone must have stolen our gulf stream as it usually stops this area getting cold . I have never known it as cold here - although I know we are lucky compared to most places.
Went shopping for some nice wine which cheered me up. Tesco sent me a £5 off £30 wine voucher so couldn't resist! They had various 3 bottles for £12 offers and 5% off any 6 bottles or more and they all worked togetherGot a great selection of 9 bottles for £27 so quite chuffed as some of them are usually over £5 a bottle. Will try and keep them for Xmas.
