If it is so vital to the family income then surely phoning to renew would have been a more sensible option? Even if it meant you had to be on hold.

Or sending the renewal in way way before 2 weeks of the deadline ending.

Actually I used to work as a civil servant (not tax credits though) therefor used to have to call a special line for staff, they still haven't sorted it out so that I can call the normal helpline, and I've not been able to get through to them to get an explanation. Also staff cannot renew over the fone, only by form so this is the reason for posting the form in or else I would have called the normal line.

Thank you for all of your advice, hopefully I'll get through on Monday, or at least get a letter about this.

Actually they can terminate your claim if they didn't get it on the system by 31st! If it does happen, or it wasn't received, phone them within 30 days and they will restart it ( you will need your income figures to hand!) and it will be updated within a week. Simple as that!!

Thanks that will be great if it is as simple as that, all of the stress and worrying over and my claim can continue as normal Im guessing?

Does this mean I wouldnt need to pay back what they have given from April?

staff renew can renew over the phone, think they use to have to do it by form only, but they definately can renew by phone this year, they just have to call a different number to the helpline. And no if you restore your claim you wont have to pay back what you have been paid since April, that would only happen if you decided not to restart your claim.

Oh no, now I feel silly. Every year I've called the number and been told 'no you can't renwe over the phone, you have to complete the form and return it' I assumed this year would be the same as its been this way as long as I can rememeber, even only last tax year, so automatically posted it in.

oh dear! But easy mistake to make! Its a shame the couldnt of put something in the pack to tell you to ring the number to renew, that would be too easy tho wouldnt it! well hope it all gets sorted for you soon.

Yeah I thought they would have put something it to make people aware, this would have been a million times easier and at least i would have known for definate that it was done.

But if it is simple enough to get restarted within 30 days then hopefully I shouldn't have a problem.

    thank you :)

I work full time so only have evenings and weekends to ring, and I tried time and time again during June and July. Every time I got that ridiculously long recorded message referring me to the website for information (but no option to renew online), followed by "Sorry, all our lines are busy, please try later. Goodbye." Grrrr.

I posted my renewal on Monday 26 July and have had nothing by post, but this week's payment into my bank has been reduced by about £50 - my income was £11000 in 2009-10 compared to less than £5000 the previous year when I was in and out of hospital and had only SSP followed by IB. Youngest DD had just finished 6th form so all child related tax credits are ending, I'd really like to know what I'm going to be getting from September and hope the letter arrives soon as they've obviously processed it their end.

i sent my declaration form back on 27 July and it is assumed they received it in two working days (1st class post). This is what the courts say for service of documents. I have proof of delivery. However, it was put on the system on 2 August. But i rang on 30 July and renewed over the phone just in case. I have the time and name of the person i spoke to. I was sent a provisional assessment based on the figures given and told to submit actual amounts by end Jan 2011.

Now my payments have stopped and it seems they're going to say i sent my renewal in late. I won't know until Tuesday when the computer's back on.

What can/should i do if they don't renew my claim?
