Tax credits have stopped...please help

I sent in my renwal pack a couple of weeks before the deadline, I know I wouldn't have been overpaid as I've had no change of circumstance and my income was the same.

I have always received my money the same day every week and this week there has been nothing at all in my bank.

I've not got a letter from them to even tell me that it's stopping.

I've heard that some claims that were posted were taking longer to receive and then scan so they were terminating these claims.

If this is the case with me, will I have to pay back any money out of my own pocket? And can I make a brand new claim asap?

Ive not been able to get through to the helpline

Thank you all

Thats not fair, surely they can't make you pay the money back when you sent it in that long ago!? Did you have to appeal the pay back (overpayment)?
Did they sort out the new claim quickly?
  • If anyone has sent out forms on time (before deadline) and told the usual line "we havn't recieved your forms" PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE call them once more and tell them you are writing to your local MP.

I did a few months ago as they told me they hadn't recieved my forms and the second lot of forms had taken 7 weeks to process. They told me i wasn't entitled to most of what they owed me, even though i did everything correctly and swiftly. I wrote to my local MP expressing my disgust at this 'Government Agency' and guess what???....I got my money in the bank within 3 days over a period of 3 days....In total, just under £1000 is what they owed me and originally told me i wasn't getting.

Just goes to show what a little influence can do.

Please try this if you feel you are getting nowhere with them or if you have lost money and are suffering because of their negligence.

    Hope this helps :-)

Thank you so much for your advice, it's appreciated.

Well Im not sure whats going on yet,(althought Im 99% sure this is whats happened) so if they have terminated my claim due to not processing it fast enough then I'll be doing the same with local mp.

Did you have to make a new claim or will they be able to re start to original in some way for me?

We are suffering, we have 3 young children and we rely on this money as part of our food money every week :-(

You are entirely welcome! You can find and email your local MP online. I can't post links but if you type 'write to them' as one word, it should pop up in the search engine.

Let them know you feel you have been mistreated and they have been negligent. You have children who depend wholly on this money and you cannot feasibly wait weeks and weeks for them to correct their own error. Obviously, go into it a little more on the form but, i assure you, MP's need votes and will definately help you out where they can. The lovely 'House of commons' letter you will recieve later on is also a good keepsake for the future with these 'government agencies'

Best of luck with it and please pass this info on to all you know who are experiencing similar difficulties. Let's get these government bodies doing the jobs they are paid to do!!
  • Oh sorry, I forgot to mention...They absolutely cannot terminate any claim you have sent in. If you sent it before the deadline, it is their responsibility to process it within the timescale. Do not let them tell you to make a new claim or you will lose money.

Actually they can terminate your claim if they didn't get it on the system by 31st! If it does happen, or it wasn't received, phone them within 30 days and they will restart it ( you will need your income figures to hand!) and it will be updated within a week. Simple as that!!

If it is so vital to the family income then surely phoning to renew would have been a more sensible option? Even if it meant you had to be on hold.

Or sending the renewal in way way before 2 weeks of the deadline ending.
