Vent - Royal Mail Thievery

Options
Royal Mail do not take theft in their system seriously.

In July a cheque was stolen from inside a birthday card sent to this address. I spoke several times with Delivery Office Manager etc and he was very good and helpful. However it has come to light that several items of an interesting nature have been sent to me recently that have not arrived.

Being as skint as anything I send for a lot of freebies , surveys and comps as I am sure a lot of folk on here do- luckily this means that I know when they are being sent out and ppl receiving them via these forums.. In the last fortnight the following have gone astray - free copy of Instyle magazine, Walkers Crisps from Captain Crunch, reusable bag from Supersavvy me, cheque from Neilsen Poll and a book I won completing a reader survey.

We do get mail every postal delivery day- bank statements etc and my Lovefilm discs do get delivered. However it is odd that anything of worth does not arrive.

I called Royal Mail who basically told me they will do nothing.

I work from home on a voluntary basis for a childrens charity - EVERY day I get mail, requests for information sheets, etc etc
I am lucky where I live now, I have an excellent postie- Chris, who is VERY reliable - but he has been off sick for a few weeks and I have gone DAYS without receiving any post- which I KNOW is not correct.

At my previous address I once received a Royal Mail plastic envelope with some letters and catalogues which were dated 18 months earlier ( yes 18 months!) and a letter saying that my postwoman had been found guilty of "interfering with Royal Mail" and that the contents of the plastic envelope had been recovered from her home address and they were forwarding it on to me.
I was DEVASTATED - not even an apology from RM - a simple statement of fact, this woman could have been stealing from our chairty for years - people often used to send cheques and rather silly I know but occasionally cash through the post- and I had No way of knowing how much if anything she stole from the charity - interestingly whilst we lived there I had several occasions to complain that birthday cards for my children from my sister who lived 150 miles away went "missing" - they often had £20 in them for my boys - in the end after about 3 or 4 occasions is happened my sister started writing on the envelope CARD ONLY- NO CASH inside - and those cards were ALWAYS delivered !
I contacted RM about - I think they sent me a book of 6 1st class stamps - but the whole experience made me VERY suspicious of RM workers for a LONG time, becuase RM's attitude was
" well, shes been prosecuted, thats the end of it"

VERY Poor service - it might be interesting to post yourself an envelope or packet via signed for mail and see if that arrives !

You sure that all the comps you win actually send the prize?

As to the other post, what else would you like from RM? The employee was delt with by the law, if you got your purse stolen in the street and the person who stole it was caught and charged you would receive nothing, why should it be different if that person steals whilst in work?

No I've had this before where things go missings - items where it is obvious what they are. RM either can'tdo anything about it or won't. They probably accept that their employees pinch as just a job perk.

So do you think this might also include the Waitrose try this dish vouchers we were being sent?

A £10 voucher from pigsback went missing from the post before Christmas
(Our postman is excellent and wouldn't have taken it).
I contacted them, they told me the details of when it was dispatched.
I was told to contact them again in a couple of weeks if it hadn't turned up to see if had been returned.
The voucher never turned up .
As they don't have proof of posting or proof of value for such a small amount they re credited the points to my account.

A few love film discs have gone missing usually after being posted back.

I'm impressed you've never had any Lovefilm discs 'lost' in the post, I've had several disappear before. Luckily, Lovefilm are obviously used to this and happy as long as you fill in their form.

I also had a mobile I sent to Mazuma Mobile 'lost' as well, and that would have been obvious as it was a branded bag. Luckily again, I had the foresight to get proof of postage as I had my suspicions it may 'disappear'. :)
"A bank* is a place where they lend you an umbrella in fair weather and ask for it back when it begins to rain."

(*Unless it's Santander. The branch says they sent you an umbrella 3 times already and don't understand why you don't have it yet and want it back right now!!!)

well an apology might have been nice - and if I did have my purse stolen in the street and the person was caught and charged, presumably, I would get my purse back at the very least.
  • I too am experiencing a lack of 'freebies' and 'vouchers' in the post. Ever since i moved last year, i have continued to apply for all kinds of freebies and vouchers and tokens etc but have only recieved a hairdye recently as it was recorded post. I know the things i applied for were free but it still sucks when nothing arrives :(

It is almost impossible to complain to Royal mail about this as there are no tracking numbers for these things and not really worth all the hassle. Sorting office bandits, tsk tsk!!

Recently a family member sent my son a card for his 6th birthday,I had to go to the sorting office to pick it up as they had not paid the correct postage, when I returned to the car I found that the envolope had been opened.
Luckily enough when speaking to the family member later they had not put any money in it but had sealed the envolope with cellotape,so it was obvious that somebody had opened it to see if there was money inside.
I complained to the sorting office but they just brushed it aside + weren't concerned at all.
