Can anyone recommend me a Cheap Reliable Internet Provider please?

I'm with Tiscali/Talk Talk at the moment and I'm paying £14.99 for a service that is getting slower and slower, plus in the middle of browsing the internet it just cuts off for no reason and then comes back on! I've had the computer checked out and they say it's the ISP! I've called Tiscali/Talk Talk and they say it's not them!

Anyway, I've finally had enough of them (been with them for years) and would like to go somewhere else, but I haven't got a clue where to go and who to go with.

I don't use it much, just mainly for browsing the internet and sending e-mails.

Any ideas please?

There are a lot more things that can cause your problems, just because you have been told it is not the computer it does not mean that it is your ISP.

It could well be that you change your ISP and still suffer the same problems !

Things you need to check, if you have a router, what does the statistics of your line say about the quality of your line, eg attenuation and noise.

When connected what are the speeds ?.

Do you have a DECT phone, if so, is the base station next to the router, if so move it as far away as possible, and from the phone socket.

Do you have any extension phone sockets in the house, if so you may need to do the removal of the ringing circuit wire.

Have you tried another filter ?

If your computer is connected by wireless, then what other wireless networks are around and on what channels ?

Go here http://www.wi-spy.co.uk/products/inssider.html and download inssider, that will scan wireless networks in your area and tell you what channels are being used, if there are more than 1 on your channel, then move to another, best channels are 1,6, or 11.

Have you checked on Sam Knows to see what speed you should be able to get?

Have a check on the BT site, put you phone number in, it will give you an idea of the speed you may expect under ideal conditions.

    www.samknows.com
Broadband is exchange specific, so it's not possible to make general recommendations. Do an exchange search on samknows, look for your LLU providers (right hand column under LLU operator presence), these will be the best deals for you.
Post your LLU options, then more advice can be given
Or post the name of your exchange.
If no LLU options on your exchange, suggest you look at Plusnet Value as a low user.
Bear in mind that if your line has already been LLU'd by TT then you will have to take your line rental back to BT on a 12m contract in order to then change your ISP.
But first do the tests as suggested above.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Try 3 mobile broadband, just been voted no1 in a yougov survey as MIFI has been named as gadget of the year so comes highly recommended.
