How do I uninstall my router?

Having just changed ISP, I'm having problems creating a new connection - Netgear router seems fine and cables/filters etc were checked previously so I thought I'd try to uninstall the router then install it again but I cannot find how to do this. Have tried Control Panel; Add Hardware section; Device Manager, Program Files and the Netgear CD itself - plenty opportunities to install - none to uninstall apparently.

Will unplugging it do the same thing?

Or right-clicking on the Netgear folder in Program Files and deleting it?

Have you received a new router from your new ISP?
  • No I already had a router and was told by my new ISP that it should be compatible with them so I paid £25 for the connection and decided to just use it.

It may need reconfiguring though so that's why I thought I'd try uninstalling and reinstalling - can't think of anything else to try.

Different ISP's use different settings within the router. You do not need to uninstall or reinstall anything on the actual computers.

Does any of the computers connected to the router work on the internet? Is the internet light on, on the router?

If no computers work on the internet when connected to the router, whats the make and model of your router? It should be written on or under it.

No the computer connected to the router isn't working - the power light is on and the adsl light is on (steady green lights). The third light is red.

    It's a Netgear DGN2000.

Go to 192.168.0.1 in your browser (or whatever is your default gateway is but that is most likely it as it is a netgear), sign in to your router and enter the details given to you by your new ISP, there will probably be a configuration wizard to follow which will make it easier.

Came from TalkTalk and moved to Plusnet. They said it was ready from today but when I put in my username and password to set up the connection it didn't work. I'm pretty sure I'm using the right password but have e-mailed Plusnet just to check.

Easy, When the new broadband is connected, Reset the router then use the setup wizard within the router this gets all the line settings. Enter your user n pass. Job done no need to do anythign physical.

    Connect to the router
    Go to internet explorer
Type in http://192.168.0.1/ and hit enter
    Username: admin
    Password: password

Look around in there for a 'set to default' button - Also look for a 'username' and 'password' section and enter the details your new ISP gave.

But it's the first bit that's the problem - getting the new broadband connected. Uninstalling and reinstalling the router was one of the suggestions given if it didn't work so that's why I was going to try it.
