5 Months to get replacement sim!
What happened was: My friend has been a Vodafone customer for some time, Vodafone asked her if she would like a pay monthly sim only pack to give to whomever she wanted, so she asked me if I wanted it, and I accepted. When the sim arrived, she phoned up Vodafone to activate the sim and to have it put in my name, I gave all my details to the Vodafone operator, created a security PIN and set up Direct Debit payments.
About a year later, approx March this year, I lost my phone, so I contacted Vodafone to get a replacement sim and to report the other one lost, only to find that they would not deal with my request because it wasn't registered in my name or address.
I sent many emails and phoned Vodafone almost everyday, explaining the situation to many different people, to no avail. I refused to pay the bill for a contract I could not get a simple replacement sim for, so my account was suspended.
I managed to get in touch with the girl who gave me the sim, and she tried as many times as I did to try and sort it out, they sent a new sim out to her address, she forwarded it onto me, and it turned out to be a pay as you go sim!
I was fed up at this point, so I asked my friend to just cancel the contract and ask them to send me the final bill, she asked them to cancel it and send her a final bill, which they said they would do, she waited a month but got no final bill, and then discovered that her contract had been suspended. So she gave me her security details, and I paid my bill, which for some reason was £157, even though I didn't have the sim, and the sim only cost was less than £10 a month.
They said they will activate the 2 accounts and send me another sim, hopefully the correct one this time!
I posted this on the Vodafone Forums and asked for some help, but it was deleted 10 minutes later
So the point of this message? Vodafone are crap

Was the account in your name or your friends?
Sounds like what you had was a second phone line on your friends account.
Who were the bills addressed to?
How do you know if your account was suspended if you don't have the SIM? Perhaps someone racked up loads of calls after you lost the SIM?0 -

I just found out today, after making an official complaint to Vodafone, that the phone was in my name, but not the account, which I didn't know. Took 5 months to finally get a straight answer. Even so, when I registered the phone in my name, I had to create my own PIN, but when I came to use that PIN to report my phone lost and to get a new sim, they still said I wasn't authorised.
I would get an email saying when a bill was available to view on my online account.
I knew the account was suspended because I could not access my online account, and when I phoned my number it would say it was unavailable.
Anyway, it should hopefully be sorted now, if they send me the correct sim
