Netbook advice

Hello All,

I am looking for a netbook/small laptop for work. I travel a lot, so want something light and easy to transport.

I will need to be able to link the netbook upto projectors/LCD tvs for presentations etc, so will need to make sure it has the right connections for that..

Also, how do I get MS office onto the netbook? most of the ones I have seen don't have a CD drive.... should I buy an external drive, as they arent too £££

My budget is around £250 - £300 ideally.

I have seen this:

Any comments? better buys?

Open to advice !

Thanks!

Get a laptop. Imagine how embarrassing it would be in your machine was too underpowered for the job? for instance, if you need to output high quality video. Definitely not that ACER.

    Hi Donnie

    Thanks for your reply!

Could you offer any advice as to a suitable laptop within budget?

Its size and weight is very important, as I travel a lot and often lugging the thing around all day!!

The above is why I thought a good spec netbook would be good.

    Advice would be really appreciated!

If it has to be a Netbook, consider something like this Wind12 U230 at a minimum. That one is an Argos Return for £254. White is also available, for £2 more.

Something with a bigger screen, but still at only 1.5kgs, is this MSI X410 at £244. Black also available.

Your 'trade off' for enhanced performance is battery life.

You can get along without an optical drive, but having one sometimes makes things easier.

I'll let the others advise on Netbooks, however Office can be installed on a Netbook using a USB Stick or External Hard Drive. Purchase the Office Software CD, put it into a computer with a CD/DVD Drive, copy the contents of the CD onto a USB Stick or External Hard Drive and then install on the Netbook via this. :)

Easier to just download it from the website and use the key from the disc.

Thanks for all the replies :-)

So I can get MS Office installed via download or usb, so that's one less concern!

What is the brand MSI like? I have never heard of them...

Are any of the Acer / Samsung/ Sony Netbooks any good?

    Thanks again

ps. Sorry if I am appearing lazy and not looking myself, but to be honest I am rather un-techie and would end up buying something the wrong spec!!! Thanks :-)

A few weeks back, I had a Samsung, Acer Aspire, Asus and Lenovo netbook here, and tried a Dell netbook at work that week.

And you know what? I could get on with most of them.

I don't really like windows 7 on the netbook, or xp, but that's personal bias.

I'd suggest going to somewhere like PC world first, and see if you can get on with the keyboard and trackpad; it will help you narrow down things a bit.
