Use the USB cable that you charge the phone with to connect to the computer. Then just drag the files over onto the phone.

  • Hi there

To be honest, your best bet is to put the movies and MP3 on to the micro SD Card. Looking at the photos of the phone, you will probably have to take the back off to get to the card, but you probably had to put the card in when you put the battery in anyway!!

If you don't have an adaptor for the card to plug it in to a USB or SD card slot, they are 99p from the 99p store.

You don't need to remove the SD card from the phone. When you have plugged it in to the computer select mount usb on the phone (I'm assuming its going to be same as the nexus and desire, havent actually used a wildfire) then 2 new drives will appear in my computer, the second one will be the microsd card.

hi all, I can access the memory card by the usb cable and connecting the phone as "mount as disc drive"
when I do this I have 8 folders already set up, but do I make a new folder or add the music and movies to one that's already on there ?
    thanks

Hi thanks for the link, but I've already looked at that and it doesn't tell you how to add music or videos, if it did I wouldn't be on here asking, I have also done a google search which only tells you how to link the phone upto itunes.
I'm not being lazy I'm trying to find out how to use the phone and asking in hope someone else can help me
    thanks

Just create a folder called Music and one called Video....

Although it doesn't really matter if they aren't in those folders.

What video files are you trying to play?

    there are different options
    • usb cable transfer
    • wifi transfer using DLNA / uPnP / FTP
    • bluetooth transfer
    • Bump app for phone to phone transfer
    • apps similar to bump for phone to phone transfer
    • email and open attachment through phone
    • pull out microsd card and the do transfer on computer and put back into phone

the easiest for you might be the usb transfer method as does not need any setup.

last but not the least... read the phone manual that is on your microsd card or can be found on htc website and is pretty self explanatory

dont bother pulling out the microsd card, too much hassle as can be done more easily by other methods in my opinion.

just connect the usb cable to your phone and then plus it into your computer. then unlock the phone screen (if it gets locked while you connect the usb cable). then you will get a box with options for
    • charge only
    • htc synch
    • disc drive mode
    • usb tethering

choose the disc drive mode. then on your computer open the music or pictures or video folders in one window. in another window go to my computer and see the phone (probably e or f drive etc) folder open it and open the DCIM folder, under which you will find the media folder, this will contain all the photos taken on your phone. copy paste all photos that you want from the pictures folder on your computer to the mediia folder of your phone.

you can create separate folders under the DCIM folder for videos and copy paste videos that you want from your vidoes folder on your computer to the newly created videos folder on your phone. you can similarly create a music folder under DCIM and do the same with music.

once everything is copied then safely remove the usb cable from the computer. dont forget to click the disconnect usb device on your computer to safely disconnect the phone (to avoid corrupting data). then after the computer says safe to disconnect, then disconnect the phone. sometimes the phone may not recognise newly transferred data. but you can switch off and restart phone.

instead of switching off and restarting the phone, you can use the "sdrescan" app (free app from android market) which scans your microsd card and all newly added files will be seen and no need to switch off and restart phone if you use this app.

actually on android you dont need to put photos / video / music in any folder and can put it anywhere and the system will find it for you for the app. but easier for you to cut paste or delete or reorganise things later if these are in specific folders rather than strewn everywhere.

other ways of wireless transfer can be done as mentioned above. some apps that do it are
    • bluetooth file transfer
    • EStrongs file explorer
    • imediashare
    • OI flie manager
    • twonky server
    • etc etc
you can explore the above yourself by trial and error after you have used the usb method

yes I saw that, but do I make a new folder and add the music and movies to that or add it to a folder that's already on the sd card ?
if I have to make a new folder do I just add both the music and movies to it or do I make a folder for each ?
As I said in my first post I need an idiots guide as I never owned a phone like this before
    thanks

thanks guys, think i might have sorted out the music side now, I've now made a new folder and added the music to that, I've checked the music player and it finds the album.
I'm now going to play with the movies next but need to convert them to mp4 before they'll work
thanks for the advice (i needed it)
