its not rubbish its just the previous generation , The new chips have a hyperthreading tech that makes them more effcient at multitasking. i5 can overclock themselves when needed of extra power, i7 are quad core. Most people with a core 2 duo would upgrade to an i7. i3 and i5 are not really a big enough jump to purchase a whole new laptop.

Depending on your reason for getting a laptop, you could wait a little longer for the offers. sign up to their newsletter, they do 5% -10% discount codes which if you get it right you can with similar special price and free delivery and topcashback get a 30% discount. I got the equivlent to 34% on my studio 15 last yr.
    Survey earnings total 2009 £417, 2010 £875, 2011 £574
  • Hi,

If you aren't concerned about fancy packaging then I would recommend taking a browse through the Dell outlet listings. I've had a couple of machines from them over the years with no complaints and tidy savings compared with the regular price. Last one was a Studio 1745 (Core i7) for £600 instead of £900+ on the main site. Very small light scratch on the lid, otherwise perfect.

Best of luck with the search.
    Keep smiling,

....though windows on it died a month ago and have been running it on linux since!

Just a little curious as to how to make a laptop run on linux once windows dies. Surely if there is no OS, how can one do anything, like installing a new OS like linux?

You install the new OS by booting the laptop from the DVD/CD drive or a USB drive the contains the new OS installation files on it.
Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????

Ubuntu quite frankly sucks. I think everyone would be so much better off with a Mac.
