Car insurance for youngsters

  • My son recently passed his test and the cheapest insurance for him was with Endsleigh but as mentioned previosuly, the best bet is to use confused.com as you only have to put your details in once and its trawla through loads of companies, thats how we found Endsleigh. Good luck

    Guys, I'm serious.

This is the worst company I have ever had to deal with.

My car got broken into at the end of february. I still do not have a stereo.

Eight months of weekly phone calls, being passed around to people pretending to be managers, and then being told they have no record of my calls.

Sending 7 copies of my receipt, to their claims department which they 'never recieved'.

Driving to their Milton Keynes office (80 miles from my registered address) to give the box to the 'branch manager' who also turned out to be lying about his identity.

They have finally offered me £53.20 for my £199.00 CD player, which they say will buy me an equivalent model and get it fitted. Yes they are aware that most of the wires have been ripped out of my car with the stereo, they think that the £53.20 cheque should cover getting those repaired as well.
    Peace,

    KJ

consider doing a pass plus course this may save you money or in my case it may not...

    Hiya Flang,

I have jusy passed my test, do not yet own a car and as such do not have insurance. My instructor has urged me to do a pass plus course and I was under the impression it would save me money. Do you mind telling me of your experience??? I am undecided about whether to do it or not.

    Many Thanks,
    Allison

I was insured with a provisional license with Churchill's last year (age 22 female), and renewed with a full license this year (age 23) and my policy almost halved as they let me have the year's no claims from when I was provisional. Renault Clio 1.2 litre - just under £700 down to just over £300 now.
Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.

    Hi Kiwichick,
Basically doing a pass plus would have only saved me around £80/90 and with the test being over £100 it just wasnt worth me doing it.
I must state though that if your still not very confidant in driving it may be worth taking one for your own benifit...
I enjoyed my driving test, and class myself as a confidant driver so motorway driving etc doesnt scare me.

Well when i done my pass plus i saved £400 off my insurance quote from Norwich Union on a 1.4 Corsa. It might be best to get quotes for a car you like and see the difference with and without pass plus to see if it would be worth while doing the course.

Don't know if this is of any use to young drivers, but you could try Morethan's Drivetime scheme (only if you dont want to drive late at night). Obviously not ideal for all but worth a shot if you really need to cut costs, visit them at
https://www.morethandrivetime.com for more details, heard there are some great savings to be made!

    Cheers
  • when i passed i used tesco insurance , worked out at £800 TPFT , might be worth looking in to:cool:
  • my BF passed his driving test 2 years ago the cheapest place he found was with tesco insurance .. the first year was £1200 .. then dropped to £700 ... then we moved down south and its dropped to £500.

The usual suspects are Tesco, they seem to be good at the moment.

When i passed my test and had my first car i went with a company called Highway Insurance who specialised in young drivers. They were the cheapest around. Not sure of their details as i no longer use usual insurers but they may suit you.
