No. I tried to go back to the point I was in before I started to see if this would solve the problem.
and if so did you make sure that one of them was set to "Master" and the other one set to "Slave"
Yes, I did that but no joy.0 -

if you have both the cd drive and dvd drive installed then its possible you may need to go into the bios to change some settings. Look in device manager, by doing the following, click on your start button bottom left, then select control panel, once the control panel is open look for an icon called system double click on the icon, and select the hardware tab at the top, once you have clicked on the hardware tab select device manager. once opened you will have a list the first place to look is DVD/CD rom drives have a look and see if there is a yellow exclamation mark. if all is alright there the next place down the list is IDE/ATA Atapi double click to open the controller then click on each tab and see how the drive is configured, that is to say you should see if its a master, or slave drive by looking here
hope this is of some use sometimes deleting the device and re booting can solve things but you have to make sure your hard disk is configured as master and on its own ide chanel and that the dvd drive can still be configured as master but it should be on its own ide chanel for example hard disk could be ide chanel one master, and the dvd writer could be ide chanel 2 master, or if your using more than one drive it should be chanel one ide master for your disk drive and ide chanel 2 for both your cd and dvd drives but configured as master and slave on a seperate ide chanel away from the hard disk drive
