I bought a Pioneer DVD writer and swopped it with my CD drive in my PC. Now neither drive will read and play DVD's. I lost the sound and I did a system restore and that solved the sound problem. I would be grateful for any advice offered.
ps, I'm a novice at this lark.

have you installed any software , nero etc, or have you just bought a bare drive?
You may be able to use these in the meantime, but you can get Nero for a few quid.

Many thanks for your very prompt reply!
The drive did not come with any software. I purchased a copy of Nero some weeks ago for £3 off the web. I have tried both Nero and Windows Media player and both won't play the DVD's.0 -

Go into Nero Toolkit, select Nero Info Tool. When it opens click on the ASPI tab and see what the aspi status is.

On the back of your cd drive and writer there are 3 settings for master, slave and cable select.
Have a look on ur old cd drive and see what its set for and then take a look at the jumper on the pioneer and make sure its the same.0 -
