Consumer rights - no faith in the garage

Options
A garage failed to diagnose the car problem and put my life and lives of other motorist at risk. Now the garage wants me to take the car back to them for inspection. I have no faith in the garage any more as they let me think I was driving a safe car. What rights do I have to get a refund and who should I contact to get help. Thanks

We probably need more info than this. A refund on what? The car itself, or the work performed?

Saying your life was at risk is quite a thing to say. How dangerous was the car? Was it dangerous in that they'd cut your brake lines, or maybe connected the exhaust to the air conditioning unit? In which case you've got a problem and should really expect a full refund.

Or was it dangerous in the sense that 99% of the one-post-wonders would say is dangerous? You know, like they'd left a piece of tool on the floor that your whole family could have choked on, or they'd not put the windows up when the car was returned to you so it was a little bit chilly...but you know you could have all died from hypothermia.
  • More info please

1 What did the garage do to the car
    2 When was this
  • Thank you for your responses. When the car stopped for the second time in a major roundabout, the rescue people checked the car out and stated that it is an ongoing problem - eventhough a new lift pump was fitted by the garage in question.

As already mentioned we need more info - are you complaining about the car or a repair job done on it? When was the car bought/work done? Who and what type of place was it bought from etc etc.

You can pursue via the Sale of Goods Act, but to be honest what you've said so far doesn't sound as dangerous and life threatening as you make out and reads more like an over reaction.

Post more info and someone may be able to correctly help out.

Wel sometimes this is the way of things, fitting a new fuel pump may have only fixed a secondary issue rather than the cause such as water in tank, wrong fuel, or sludge from running it too low....
    Back by no demand whatsoever.
  • Thank you for your responses. The initial problem was -fuel not reaching the engine. The garage installed a lift pump. When the car stopped again (without a warning - that could have lead to a car collusion and endanger lots of lives) the rescue mechanic - stated the problem as 'Ongoing', 'air in system' and 'manually bleed'. He checked the car thoroughly before he wrote the report. I hope this is the information you are seeking. Please let me know what action I should take. Thank you.

A collusion is a conspiracy or secret agreement.

As I suspect you have completely overexaggerated the story for scandal reasons and strongly suspect you have much of a case as the garage seems to have been on the right lines.

Mechanics will never be right 100% of the time!!

Not over exagerating at all,It was very dangerous, the car stalled on the road another car could have hit it ,then another, then another, then the rescue services could have had a crash, and gone up in flames ,then the pilot of a jumbo jet overhead may have been distracted and crashed on the roundabout,

    It does'nt bear thinking about:eek::eek:
