Yes jobs like this should NOT be done on day rate at all. If you are happy with £1,100 settle for that which was the number he gave you the other day. If he's trying to drive it up to 9 days and you are saying 7 then just split the difference at the number he first thought of. Otherwise there will be tears! And make sure you get a proper invoice too and a written statement of the guarantee he is offering on his workmanship!

Yours is £ 137.50 by all accounts which is a bit weird but there's no real single answer to that question as everyone will have different overheads and flexibility in how he goes about quoting a job. kItchesns should be fitted for a price not on a day rate basis but I think I can see where you are leading.;) If you thought somewhere in the £ 150 - £ 200 bracket you'd probably not be that far out.
