This is I'm sure a daft question but I don't have to text the ' ' quote marks do I? Just the word thanks, I assume?
I have texted and hopefully will get the £5 within the promised 48 hours. However, the text itself seems to have cost me the standard charge which is a little odd - why charge at all for a text that is to obtain a free £5? I guess it's a cynical way of getting people with a zero balance to buy a credit just to use the SIM to get this extra £5. Sigh. I'm not a fan of anything Tesco myself, never will be.

Hi, thanks for that, received top up on both phones within 15 mins of sending the text. So, Friday 13th not so bad after all, made £10 before I got dressed !!:D

Just text thanks to the number no quote marks, received 2 texts back confirming the credit within minutes, same for hubby.

thanks for this! bought a new phone on tuesday topped it up on wednesday, got triple phone credit yesterday and another free £5 credit today! just need someone to talk to now!

Wonder if it will work on mine, I topped up when I first bought the phone (about 3 years ago! £10 topup and still got £7 of it ;-))

It should work - there just has to have been one top-up before 12 August:
