Any reason to hang on to everyday50?

I've been on ED50 since 1999. In the last year, Orange seem to have blocked both PreDial (that I used for called x-net off peak) and stopped 0800 numbers being free, which has ruined QxDial.

Is there any real point staying on this tarrif? I don't really use many minutes a month and am more interested in data as I hae a C500 smartphone. I'm eyeing up a move to T-Mobile's sim only card (£7.50/month with 50 mins and month by month contract) and Web 'n' Walk (so the same monthly cost as I have now, but unlimited data access). This way I can wait until a better deal/phone comes along and not be tied into a long/pointless contract.

Orange currently gives you 50 minutes/day where as the T-mobile sim gives 50 minutes/month. If that is all that you use, then go ahead with the T-mobile sim.
  • Careful if going to t-mobile, just spotted this in their t's & c's for Web & Walk:

"Use of Voice over Internet Protocol and Messaging over Internet Protocol is prohibited by T-Mobile. If use of either or both of these services is detected T-Mobile may terminate all contracts with the customer and disconnect any SIM cards and/or web ‘n’ walk cards from the T-Mobile network"

So don't try to use skype or MSN...

  • Hi kiran_mk2 where did you find the information about t mobile SIM only deals? Do you have a link to it on their website?
  • The link is here: http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/Dispatcher?menuid=weboffers_personal_sim_only_pm

From the main page got to "phones and plans"->"special offers" and then select "sim only" from the list on the left.

I don't really make many calls (and when I do it's typically for a minute or 2 during the day), where as I would use the data link a lot.

There used to be a reason to hang onto ED50 as there were a lot of loopholes that Orange seem to have closed. Also, trying to get an upgrade out of them was like trying to bleed a stone.
  • If you do decide to change there is (afaik) some resale value to the ED50 sim card. You can sell it and then have it transferred to the buyer. Last one went on ebay for £49
  • I would buy it!!! would love to get hold of an ED50!!!

I'm also with ED50 and hardly use it.. Was also thinking of switching to the T-mob SIM only deal, but AFAIK the web and walk "pro" (unlimited) is an extra £10/month. Where do you see that its free and unlimited?

    There are 3 WnW packages.

Web n Walk costs £7.50 a month and can be added on to any pay monthly tarrif - I don't know if you have to take WnW for 12 months or if you can add it a month at a time. For this you get a fair useage limit of 2Gb (ie you can go over this, but not every month), can't use your phone as a modem for a laptop/pc and can't use voip services.

Web n Walk Pro costs £10 a month and has the same features as WnW, but it allows you to use your phone as a modem for a computer. The T&C also states no instant messenger programs but I can't see them being ok for WnW but not for the more expensive WnWPro

Web n Walk Pro(2) cost £20 a month and you get a laptop card and 3G sim to allow HSDPA speeds on laptops and PC with laptop card adaptors. This is an 18-month contract as far as I'm aware and the voip ban still applies.
