Can a sky card be used in any box?

Hi
My FIL is coming to stay and wants to watch a specific football match, however we dont have the sports package. Can my FIL bring the card out his sky box and put it in our box to view the game? Or are the cards somehow tied to a specific box/dish/connection?
Thanks

Cards are paired to the set top box for premium channels to stop exactly this thing. Sky Sports is a premium channel.0

As already stated, the cards are paired to the box.
Get him to fetch his box as well. Its a simple job, just ensure the unit is powered down at the socket before disconnecting.0 -
I disagree I have a HD box downstairs and a plus upstairs and I can swop the cards over and works fine, (watched the charity shield last week). As long as it is a plu/hd it should be fine but when i had a std box it did not work.0

No idea how you have done this but it should not be technically possible for any premium channels which is sky sports and sky movies. It will work for any of the 6 mix channels such as sky 1.0 -
I just put the card in, It was the same card that was in the box that is now upstairs. All the engineer did when he came was to take the card out and put it in the new box so I do not know if that makes any difference?0

I take it you can get all your premium channels on your new box?
I can swap cards between my boxes, even get the HD channels on the box without the HD sub. However I can't get the Premium channels ( Movies & Sports).0
